The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Wispa is often, though not always, sick after having drontal tablets too. She wasn’t last time, but I can’t remember what I did to try to prevent it - either give her the tablets with her food, or give the tablets with just a bit of food but not with her full meal.

Thank goodness you had plenty of towels in the car. Carbon doesn’t look too impressed with his bath!

Moo always used to puke on drontal. I know a few different dogs do. You will need to get some different worming tablets they've not gone through his system if hes puked them up. Did you see them in his sick or your bag? Sorry...you know I would look I've even been known to have a quick sort through
Our first lab had also a reaction on drontal! We now give Finn Milbemax. Vet suggested this

So they do the same thing? I've used Milbemax for years and never had a problem...and Brogan had a very dodgy tummy.

Gosh poor boy (and poor you). I suppose it’s good it happened in the car rather than the AirbnB rental ?? :hmm:
Would have been a lot easier to clean up in the rental as there is a little garden and tile floors. But it happened, we got it sorted and I even got all the towels through the wash and hung to dry before going to bed...not harm, no foul!

This morning Carbon is STARVING - I don't blame him! - and seems back to his normal self. I think we will head towards Arezzo for the market BUT in the car instead of train and if he starts looking green, we'll simply call off the tourism and have a walk in a park or come home.

And for his second dose this evening, he can have it with his normal home made meal in the evening and be very calm afterwards. When the vet is back on Monday I can ask if he needs redosing because the first tablets may have come up and also if we can swap the Drontal for Milbemax.

swap the Drontal for Milbemax.
Wispa has had Milbemax instead of Drontal too, with no adverse reactions. I think it must be more expensive than Drontal, though, because it couldn’t just be substituted on the vetplan scheme. It’s worth asking, particularly if Carbon has another sicky episode.

I hope you have a better day today!

When Stanley ate an illegal substance the vet said as it had been more than 2 hours earlier it was pointless to make him throw up as it was already well and truly in his system. So you should be ok with 3.5 hours ☺ X

Ok, so here's my wormy update! I went to the emergency vet, who oddly was the same vet we saw yesterday. Small town! Anyway, he said Drontal was better for this particular type of worm but that a thing called Milbemax Blu would also work. I asked him if that was the same as the regular Milbemax and he said no, it's a special one. Just a quick google search tells me it's just regular old Milbemax, just for dogs of over 5 kgs.

He also said he didn't think the reaction to the Milbemax would be any different as this worm is bad and it's the sudden die-off that makes dogs feel so pants. I KNOW I asked him about that yesterday and he said there wouldn't be a reaction and I didn't need to keep Carbon calm. Argh!

Anyway, he prescribed me Milbemax because I asked for it as well as something to help with the nausea. They didn't have it in stock at the practice. Unfortunately I couldn't find it anywhere else to buy it so am stuck with the Drontral again tonight. I fixed a very digestible dinner of mushy broccoli, sauerkraut and cooked chicken. Carbon is very calm and we're not going anywhere tonight. We'll see if he starts erupting around 10pm. If he does, I'm ready.

For the follow up doses, hopefully I can get some Milbemax at a larger vet clinic for pharmacy. That should be do-able, especially as I have two weeks to sort it out.

Fingers crossed for poor Carbon tonight. I felt awful giving it to him, but I feel worse about him being infested with worms. The vet said the first dosage was fine, no need to repeat, so at least there's that.

We're meant to be going into Rome tomorrow to meet Miry. I really hope it isn't too much for BOTH of us. :hmm:

Here are some photos from our ill-fated drive yesterday evening to Bagno Vignoni. It's a quiet little village with thermal springs - mainly a group of hotels and a park with Roman ruins. There is a also a Roman bath at the base of the hill which you can still visit. For me, the hill was too steep and we were losing daylight, but it was still interesting to see if from afar.

Carbon wasn't feeling his best, so I didn't make him model.

So in the words of Carboncito, here are a bunch of boring scenery shots. Aye, aye aye!

It is prescription only in the UK
I suspect here too as well because the vet wrote a script for me.

I hope this dose doesn't have the same effect for both your sakes.
Me too. We're now 3.5 hours post dosage, exactly when he spewed last night, and so far so good. Crossing all fingers and toes. I honestly don't mind the clean up so much, but for Carbon's sake hopefully it was the combo of the nausea and the drive last night and tonight he'll do better.

Hola todos! I am staying very very quiet tonight, but wanted to tell you about my day. Primero, I am not quite feeling my normal charming self. Probably because of all the rain. Sabes, we Spanish dogs do not like rain because we spent so much time in it during our past lives. You remember my motto right? Wet from above bad, wet from below good! Whatever is going on with me, foster lady said we should have a slow day, so we did.

First we drove to the train station where we will take the big shiny snake thing tomorrow morning. I don't really like the shiny snake thing, but foster lady says we are visiting Miry from Spain and she will speak bonita Spanish to me, si, si. I love Miry because she always tells me I am SO guapo, which of course is true.

Foster lady says we had to go to the train station today to "get the lay of the land" and decide where to park our beautiful blue car tomorrow while we go to Rome on the big shiny snake. We're coming back late and have to walk back to the car from the station. Foster lady says, "No one is afraid of you so we have to make sure the walk back to the car is safe." Aye, aye, aye! No one afraid of ME? Big black love machine that I am. Oh...si, I guess I am a love machine. Vale, in that case, I am glad foster lady thinks of these things. She is right: I am a lover, not a fighter.

Once all our planning for tomorrow's trip to Rome was done, we went to a town with a big big park and lots of people on the street selling old stuff that smelled muy interesante. It would have been a lot of fun except it was RAINING. I. Hate. Rain. So I did not do my modelling job with my usual happy smile. De hecho, I was quite grumpy.

Every dog has an off day, verdad?

And here we gooooo....

Me looking guapo.

Here I am trying to communicate to foster lady that it is time to go somewhere dry and warm, preferably where I can cuddle my Bunny and have a siesta. Clearly she is not understanding my mental telepathy.

Me looking guapo. Again.

I am so over this modelling gig today.

Vale, amigos, I am all done in for the day. There had better be more sunshine tomorrow or I am going on a model strike!
