It will be a surprise for Carbon, but before cheerful Christmassy Germany, we head to Italy. Poor gentleman will be very confused!

On the camino again! At the airport with ML. I was already greeted by the whole Lufthansa flight crew as we went through security- they even knew my seat number! Does that mean they will bring sausages directly to me? Que bien!

ML here: we made it to Regenburg and now are going to try for a good sleep. The plane trip was the best I’ve ever had: only 1/4 full, they fed us business class food since they had enough for everyone and the flight attendants brought Carbon a first class dog bed and cheese assortment to nibble on. Not spoiled at all!

Glad all went well. I think now will be looked back on as The Comfort Age of International Flying—so many empty flights! My mom flew to Turkey. Everyone had a row to themselves.

It was a really thick quilted pad that the flight attendant said was a dog bed from first class… who
knows? She was bringing us all sorts of things!

We’ve made it to the Alps right at dark. Lovely little apartment in a farm up on a mountain, but zero promised Wi-Fi. However, for once I do not care because I’ve juiced my UK mobile up with data and inside my sparkling new iPhone, it’s zipping along happily. So glad I finally joined the internet age.

We just stopped there overnight to sleep and pick up the car. I stopped at my storage locker, swapped out California gear for winter gear, bought Carbon’s food, hit Aldi, and then we drove off. Tonight the Alps and tomorrow afternoon we roll into Florence.

Whew…then I’m really on holiday.
