Emily, you ARE paying for this house, it's not a free stay, you shouldn't feel guilty about getting the owners to fix problems.
The shower(s) and the door now, are issues that impact upon the expected/advertised stay so you should lobby them to get them fixed.
Aye, if the Levante is causing swathes of destruction across the region, a bit of patience, but you are a customer and their promised facilities are coming up short.
If you aren't going to stay there again, no loss. If you hope to, I'm sure you can be polite!

Maybe stay in and keep working. At least you’ll feel that you’ve achieved something! Perhaps you could also contact the owner sooner, then at least you’ll have access to the garden for Carbon.
It sounds horrible - keep safe.
Thanks Carol - I already gave myself the "put your big girl pants on" speech and have sent a politely worded (@Jacqui-S ) but very clear list of all this things that are not working.

Again, agree. I'm actually paying more for this house than I've ever paid for anything long-term (i.e. more than a few nights hotel) and it is such a disappointment. On the other hand, I've caused some of that myself by trying to just live with things that I should have brought to the attention of the owner immediately. I've now done that, let's see what she does. It's a holiday weekend here, so I understand nothing will happen until next week, but at least I've spoken up.

At the end of the day, good practice for me! 😉

And NO, I do NOT hope to stay again. Ever. Ever. Ever. 😂 That's not for Spain, it's a big country with lots to explore, but just for this house and this specific area.

By the way, thank you for the replies - it really helps. I feel pretty isolated right now and even though logically I know that NONE of this is serious at all (I am safe and healthy), I'm quite down at the moment.

I think what I'll do now is go somewhere nearby for a walk (not the coast as it will be too dusty/sandy) before it becomes absolutely scorching, then come back here to work and have a productive day, even if it's not the tourism extravaganza I'd planned on. 😊

Sorry these things are happening. I think it is serious. As @Jacqui-S says you are paying and everything should be 100%. I too hate complaining and have a tendency to put things off so I’m glad you have contacted the owner. I hope she responds quickly.

Don’t feel isolated and down - we are here virtually

When I think of Spain, I think of sitting in a cool courtyard sipping on sangria. Is there somewhere nice you can go hang out for a bit and soak up the holiday atmosphere?

It is so beautiful! But the whole experience is sounding very much No Fun. How long is this heat/wind supposed to last? Will the weather be more temperate after that?

Perhaps you are just getting to the stage where continually travelling is just too much. Which is completely understandable. Hope things start looking up soon!

The levante (wind + dust + heat) is here until Monday. The heat itself is until who knows...October? 42C is pretty normal for Andalusia in summer. I was planning on going into Seville very early tomorrow and walking around until noon or a bit earlier when the heat really starts to bite. Not really sure now. I'd give a lot to not hear the howling wind for a few hours, but not at the risk of cooking my little Señor.

On the bright side, no hair dryer needed today - sat on the roof for 10 minutes after my shower and bing bam, dry hair. :giggl:

Yep, I'd say my goose is feeling fully cooked at the moment! And my next stop - 5 weeks on my dad's 40 year old sofa bed - will cook it even further.

It would be worth it to me to buy a new one to sleep on. A cheap one from IKEA has got to be better than a 40 year old one!

Oh no, then he'd have to get rid of the old one to make space and that he'll never do. Imagine that in the house, nothing of my mother's except her clothes has been moved since she died 14 years ago. Even little things like her draping her church camp ID over the knob on the lamp before heading out the door.

Two years ago I bought all new bedding for myself at IKEA, lovely pillows and a new duvet and all new linens. That helped as I completely cover over all bits of the sofa so I don't have to look at it. I also douse everything with air freshener and put plug ins in the room, that helps. Then last year I asked if we could go out and get an air mattress to put over the very thin existing mattress. To his credit, my dad actually did that before I got there and went to great pains to make sure the pressure was comfortable. It's still not great, but it's much better than it was!

To be fair, he does have a guest room upstairs with a proper bed, but it's right next to his room and I'd wake him up every time I moved or went to the bathroom (I get up a good 5 hours before he does) and it's hot as heck up there to boot. So I'd rather hide out downstairs with my own bathroom, functional air conditioning and feeling like I can get up when I want.
