Still think you need to buy something small in Cornwall. Rent it out for a few months of the year, mylabradorfriends can visit and keep it ship shape when you are away... at least it will be YOUR place for 6 months of the year :inlove: :hug:

This was my suggestion too , especially given the prices of holiday rentals in Cornwall right now and out of season too xx Editing to add that the lovely house Emily stays in , Upper Deck at St.Merryn has just quoted me 2668 pounds for five days in October, its such a rip off x

Yes, back to thinking of this even though the logistics kind of break my head. First step is to consult with a UK immigration lawyer, because the worst case scenario is that I buy something but can't even get to it 6 months a year because i'm stopped at the UK border for 'over visiting'. I need to make sure that is not possible, or at least that I do everything VERY legally.

If I did have something I would be THRILLED to have friends be able to enjoy it when I wasn't there. Or when I was there! 😁

Good lord. 😳 I know they were doing that last kind of pricing last fall as well. It's astonishing that those are the going rates! Just to make things very clear, what I pay in the winter has no correlation to what they quoted you.

OK, so I will continue to take over Carbon's thread just for an update on the flight. Because from Carbon's perspective, the flight went like this: people come and pet me, then the nice flight attendants feed me pastrami, then people pet me some more, then more pastrami, then I slept a little, then ML fed me breakfast, then we bumpy bumpy landed, then Cookie Man was there, then I got crackers, then I slept. The end.

Actually, come to think of it, that's pretty much how it turned out after we got on board. The plane was 45 minutes late taking off because of waiting on passengers trying to make connecting flights, but boarding was civilised and the always-outstanding Lufthansa flight crew was again outstanding. Along with Aer Lingus, there can't be a more dog-friendly flight crew out there! We got lucky with seating in that we were surrounded by especially dog-friendly people, including a lovely young Italian couple on their honeymoon right next to us. Carbon indeed did get pastrami several times during the flight as one flight attendant kept him supplied. His foot got bumped once by the food trolley and you would have thought he was mortally wounded, but at least afterwards he didn't fight me so much to stay within his alotted space. That's the only issue with having an aisle seat - I have be be constantly aware of straying feet and tail.

Overall, Carbon was calmer than his usual and actually did sleep some of the time. I think he's still tired from his modelling gig with @snowbunny !

We had to wait nearly an hour for luggage, but that was fine too. As usual, no checking of carbon's passport at US customs. That always cracks me up - try to bring in an apple to California and they'll ream you over the coals, but bring in a live dog and it's "Meh". Not that I'm complaining, it just seems a little unbalanced.

And that's it. Five weeks of being on US time ahead of us, and having Fun with Traffic, California style. I've got to put on my Mad Max attitude and face the masses! 😂

Sadly no doggie loos on board or past security. That means he had his last wee at 1:30 pm in Germany, then:

2,5 hours going through the security and wait at gate
45 minute flight delay
11,5 flight time
1,5 hours from landing until leaving airport/first chance for wee.

So more or less 16 hours without a wee. With Brogan, I'd break this up with a stop in Chicago, but for Carbon a direct flight works much better. That may change as he gets older, but for now, this works best.

I control his water intake, but he does as well - meaning that he usually doesn't even drink all the limited water I offer him. I know it sounds bizarre, but both Brogan and Carbon learned this on their first flight. After the very first flight, they simply don't want to drink very much until they leave the flight. So Carbon gets water twice during the flight, plus fed a small meal two hours prior to landing. He also gets to eat anything the flight crew brings him as I've learned that I can't control that.

It helps that I take night flights, so this is the time that he wouldn't be weeing anyway as he'd be sleeping. I think this helps him be more comfortable too.

Also I usually try to limit his weeing in the 3-4 days or more prior to a flight, so it just seems natural to him not to go. That was easy to do this time as we were driving across France. He really does seem to have a bladder of steel, thank goodness! 😊

Both Brogan and Carbon get/got this funny look on their faces about 6 hours into any long haul. It's not "I have to wee", it's "OK, now we live in a metal tube so I guess I'll make the best of it". I can almost not bother looking at the time because that face comes up so punctually. It doesn't seem to bother them - both boys practically skip/skipped their way through security as they are happy to fly knowing what's a the end - but it is funny that THE FACE is so predictable.

Sorry that was a bunch of weird tenses as I'm talking about how Brogan WAS and how Carbon IS, but you get it. 😉

Amigos, I am so ashamed. I ate my Elly's arm as I was feeling quite nervous all of the sudden. I am normally a very relaxed gentleman but something overcame me and MUNCH there went Elly's arm down into my handsome tummy when no one was looking.

ML found Elly this morning - nearly mortally wounded, poor little amigo - and could not believe that I had done it. I NEVER hurt my stuffy amigos! But there was the evidence, Elly with only one arm. ML said it was lucky that I had not taken a fancy to eat Elly's trunk, because then Elly would look rather more like a mole than an elephant.

Right now Elly is getting a spa treatment bath along with Monkey, and Cookie Man is sewing up an artificial limb. I will keep you posted on the upcoming surgery.
