The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Thank you all for the support.

Frankly not doing so well at the moment as the tax situation has also (re) exploded in addition to the residence thing. I have my meeting with my lawyer tomorrow morning and am just hoping he was able to work a Christmas miracle for me in the last two days.

I think poor Carbon is feeling the strain. This morning I was getting his breakfast ready and he just came and stood right in front of me and wee-ed. Carbon is the master of 5 minute long morning wees and that's precisely what he did. He wee-ed and wee-ed and wee-ed. No arm flapping or hopping up and down on my part made a difference, so instead I just kept throwing down paper towels under him to try to contain the deluge.

He looked so miserable afterwards that I just gave him a big hug and told him he was a good boy. Maybe I just reinforced wee-ing indoors but I couldn't stand to see such a sad face on him. He's not had an 'accident' indoors since our first day in the apartment last summer, so I really think something odd was happening and he couldn't help it. Poor pup. And thank goodness for fake wood flooring that cleans in a snap.

I managed to get him an appointment with the good Leish vet today, so that has made me happy. It's this afternoon, which means I won't be able to get my car back into Regensburg until after the Christmas markets close around 9pm, so maybe Carbon and I will hit up some evil fast food joint and share it while huddled in the car for warmth. Adventure!

Finally, I picked up my German language test certificate yesterday. I took it last summer in order to fulfil the requirements for my permanent residence permit and while I knew I passed, I didn't know my score until I got the certificate. 298,5/300! Could have knocked me over with a feather. The Germans may not want me, but they can't say I didn't rock their test!

I hope the vet's visit goes well, you're long overdue a break - and enjoy the evil fast food if that's what happens!
And I'm SO impressed by your German language test score!!! Out of 300, that's phenomenal. I really, really hope they recognise what a fluent gem they've got x

Well, whatever else is happening, we sure had a good evening and good news at the vet's...

Carbon's eye mucus test from September came back 100% negative for Leish! Tonight the vet drew a bucketful of blood for a more complex antibody test that she says will confirm once and for all that he's in the clear and in fact has tested false positive all along. While it is not a certainty, she says that given the eye mucus test, his chances of testing positive for this confirmation test today are less than 5%.

So it's not the BIG happy dance yet, but we're getting there. So...little happy dance while I wait for the results: :happyfeet:

Also, in what is surely a greater Christmas miracle from Carbon's perspective, the vet said that Carbon is TOO SKINNY and should be fed more. To which I'm sure his response was, "I TOLD you so, silly foster lady...I'm HUNGRY!"

Finally the vet appointment went so quick that we were able to sneak back into the garage with only a 20 minute wait, which means we are both having a healthy dinner at home instead of evil fast food. Not that I wouldn't have enjoyed the evil fast food, mind you, but home is better.

Now as aspiring monkey butler in training, I shall go prepare Señor Carboncito's BIGGER dinner. :xmasparty:

OMG, this is amazing! Eye mucus test?! That's a new one on me, but if the bloods come back clear - well, squeeeee!!

Last vet check I had with Squidge, the (stand-in) vet told me she was too skinny, too. Errrrr - no. Just not a tub of lard like the majority of Labs. My regular vet here thinks she's perfect. I think she could still lose a couple of hundred grams. :D

Sorry to hear about your legal challenges - I don't understand it, it just sounds bloody ridiculous to me. Hoping you find a way through it. But for now, some slighly-premature-but-ever-so-hopeful squees for Carbon :)

Congratulations on the results of your German exam, it should show the powers that be, that you do have 100% commitment to be a German Citizen. Poor Carbon was probably caught short and once he started to pee there was no going back. Good news at the vet  May tomorrow bring more positive things, but a difficult place for you to be in today just not knowing. We are all thinking of you xxx

That’s a fantastic result for your German exam and good news for Carbon from the vet too! :) Now all those positive vibes need to rub off onto the tax man, your lawyer and the German authorities...

It has been a very skin of my teeth type of week and now that it's over I'm gratefully going to sink into bed as early as possible.

Is 7pm allowed?

Lots of activity with my lawyer but the end result is that I'm getting what they call a "fictional" visa (don't ask why it's called that, I just figured it is a quirk of German) which acknowledges my right to stay while some behind the scenes stuff gets sorted out. I will pick that up on Monday morning, which means another three hour wait starting at 6am, but hopefully with a more positive result this time.

Carbon has fully embraced the multiple visits to my lawyer's office this week and is now ruined beyond hope. Meaning that he is not only greeted with fresh ham by my lawyer, but one of the other lawyers now has taken to just opening up a big treat tin and essentially letting Carbon nose dive for whatever he wants. Is it possible to be TOO dog-friendly?

Finally, I called the vet today about Carbon's Leish test but the results have been delayed and I was told to call back on Monday afternoon. So for this weekend, it's wait mode for both of us.

Today I took Carbon to the raw food store and then out to the fields nearby for a free run with his ball. He is currently snoring away on the sofa, so I have a feeling that he will not mind tucking into bed early either tonight. Tomorrow maybe it's about time Carbon gets more photos posted of our trip. As he would say, "Aye, aye, aye, all you ever talk about is taxes and visas, foster lady! Que aburrido! How boring!" :sneaky:
