The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Oh glad you are over the border and are now set to enjoy a lovely day and a gorgeous beach!:tail::sun: Looking at my post it sounds like you have just escaped!!!
Heh, heh...that's kind of what I felt like! Not escaping the UK but escaping the border patrol. I've watched too many episodes of that Australian TV show where they stick people in the immigration jail for even looking suspicious.

Got to our Airbnb 'gite' with no problems. The host couldn't be nicer and the place is cute as a bug's ear. I'm sorry I'm only staying one night. Carbon already raided the host's kitchen and made fast friends with their dog Lazlo. Now he's in a happiness coma. :D

If anyone needs a super dog-friendly place to stay near Calais (it's one hour south in Quend, 4 kms from the beach), I'd definitely recommend it. I'll have to put a link in the travel section.

Hola todos! Hello everybody! Today we had a ride on the car train and went to France. ML was Señora Grumpypantalones this morning because we had to get up really early but once we got to the beach I made her happy by running into the water and being silly. I may be a dignified Spanish Gentleman Dog, but sometimes you just have to do silly things to cheer up the people you love. Also ML gives me special sausages if I make her laugh, so...

Vale, ok, I have no dignity around sausages. Que lastima, what a shame, but I cannot help myself. Anyway, it did not matter because no one saw me except a few tourists, the police patrol and two other dogs. What do I care?

After the beach we went to our new house. I have decided to live here forever because I now have a new friend named Lazlo. Lazlo has a big garden, a swimming pool and a bowl of kibble in the kitchen that magically refills after I steal borrow it. Que rico! How delicious!

Tomorrow ML is going somewhere else - she is always going somewhere else - but I am staying here. Ojala que te vayas bien, have a good life, ML. Lazlo and I will miss you!

This is me being dignified on the beach...

Looking very guapo if I may say so...

I can even make sand look elegant. What did you say? I do not look elegant here? Well to you I say "Pfft!"

Where you find the drive and energy to live as you do is beyond me x
Well, I don't have a fixed home and haven't had one for nine years now. The truth is I can't really remember how to get off of the travel merry-go-round.

Where are you in France now? That beach looks awesome!
The beach is Cap Gris Nez. It's a very pretty 30 minute drive from the Eurotunnel terminal in Calais. It's huge and dog-friendly year round with a free car park with WC. Makes a great dog stop to stretch your legs after the crossing.

This is the first time I've seen it at high tide and with full on sun - it looked very different, almost Caribbean! Here are a couple videos from last June at the same beach with Carbon and Paul/Vizzy:

Carbon has some serious writing to catch up on tomorrow to tell you about his visits in Brighton plus meeting Lazlo and his human, Arlette, in France. As predicted, he DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE today. In fact, neither did I! I was going to stop at a bunch of points along the way during the drive to Normandy but instead we didn't leave Arlette's gite in Quend until 3pm. Lazlo and Carbon played and Arlette and I talked and the time just kind of went by. But no regrets whatsoever - at this stage in my travel career I value getting to know kind and interesting people more than sightseeing. It was a very good way to spend the day.

It was an easy drive to Normandy but I had to stop and have a serious nap. That in turn made me seriously late but I'd rather be late than fall asleep at the wheel. For the first time ever Carbon actually let me sleep instead of trying to crawl into the front seat and sit on my face. I took that as a sign that he's just as worn out as I am!

So far I'm not quite sure what to make of Normandy. It seems a mix of grey and a bit sad villages and others that are chocolate box adorable. I passed through one little town that was festooned with French, Canadian and American flags and photographs of the men who liberated it on D Day. It was surprisingly moving. I've been watching documentaries on D Day and interviews with ex-soldiers so am looking forward to learning and seeing more.

Our place in Normandy was like finding a needle in a haystack, but we finally arrived a couple hours ago. It's an odd mix of 'just redone' (upstairs) and 'sometime from 1930' (downstairs) but I like it a lot so far. It's very quiet and has an enormous garden for Carbon. You can even see a sliver of an ocean view from the garden and upstairs.

Here is the house and garden - you can play 'spot the TARDIS and the Spanish Gentleman Dog'. :)
