Oh wow - I’m going to read this all again to take it all in. I can’t imagine how utterly exhausted you must have been after that!

But this bit -
Carbon was properly taking the baton from Brogan, who surely must have been doggie-whispering encouragement in his ear. I have to admit I couldn’t help tearing up, though hard to say whether it was out of sadness or happiness. I guess it’s possible to feel both at the same time.]
Yes, yes absolutely it’s possible to feel both at the same time. Happiness/sadness Pride/concern Confidence/worry can be side by side - and, at times very strong feelings side by side.

So glad you made it! Much love to you both - rest and recuperate.:hug:

Oh @Emily_Babbelhund - this did for me
L told me I was a brave boy petted my neck over and over in my favorite spot, but I did not notice. She wrapped me up in her arms as much as she could and leaned over me, making a safe small space. Poco a poco, little by little that helped.
And I'm made of stone, woman! What a journey, and what an incredibly brave and trusting pair you are; I love how much you helped each other through. And ahhh, what sweet relief to be at journey's end and soaking up the pampering for a while :D Hope you're having a lovely time, the photos are fab too xxx

Your writing is so good that I have been transported and feel I have taken the whole journey myself. Poor darling Carbon on the second fight, I did feel for him, you must feel relieved that the journey home will be one flight.

Looking at the photo of your room, surely that wasn't all the luggage you took?

Thanks for taking all the trouble to write out your adventurous flight, I am having a bad day today with worrying about Mike, so it was wonderful to escape into your world for a time xx

 I'm sorry things are going badly again with Mike, Sonia. Has he moved to the care home yet? I haven't caught up on all threads yet, so may have missed some news about him.

No, thank goodness! That is all of my belongings. Because I won't be back in my Regensburg apartment until December, all my belongings had to be packed into my car before my flight and ready for our drive to Ireland as soon as we land back in Munich. That is why the packing took so long. For California, I took a small rolling suitcase and a backpack carryon.

Loved reading about the first flight, not so much the second...what an ordeal.
The second flight was scary. There was a chunk of time I really thought I might be taking a dead dog off the flight. I'll be talking to his trainer on how to prepare him better and with his vet about having some medication ready for him. Thankfully he came out of it 100% fine and we'll not be in such a small plane for the flight home. My only concern about the flight home is that he may now have some poor memories of the last flight that he transfers over to the larger airplane, so I want to have some different strategies and tools for him just in case.

Yes, he is in a care home for a 4 week assessment, fortunately only about 3 miles away from me, the first one they were going to send him to was 48 miles away!!!!! He is going downhill slowly, so a stressful time. Hope you have a great time with your Father xx
