The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Hola mis amigos!

A short update as I am SO HAPPY that I must share. Today I went to an office. It was a leetle bit like my favourite office in Germany where the nice man with cookies lives, but today they had no cookies. I do not think it is a very excellent office with no cookies for me, but the people were kind and gave me pets. Cookies would have been better, but I am a Spanish Gentleman dog so I did not complain. How educado, polite, am I?

Then we went to a Mexican restaurant. I sniffled under the booth - very discretely of course - and then settled with my head pointed towards the front door. I could see all the very nice people come in and they said I was muy guapo AND muy educado. These Mexican kind of people are mi gente, my people.

The restaurant still was not the best part of the day. The best part was when we went to a big, big store FILLED only with FOOD! Que rico! So many delicious smells! So many beautiful sights! I was so very good and did not eat any of the food, but my nose smelled and smelled and smelled. Oh, it was such a magical place that I want to go back again and again.

When we got home, my Grandpa Man (GPM) took some of the food in bags from the magical store and he shared with ME. He is my new best friend. Apples and melon and popcorn and human cookies. ML says I am getting fat and she feeds me TINY meals, but luckily GPM makes sure that I do not starve. He is the best human EVER.

Now I am going to dream of running down the aisles of my new favourite place in the whole world. De verdad, it is true: life in California is GOOD.

And off he goes into the wide blue yonder !
Yes, you've seen that action of Carbon's plenty of times, haven't you?

Sorry he isn't the perfect assistance dog (yet)
One of the hardest things I had to learn with Brogan is that there is no such thing as perfection when it comes to assistance dog work. They can be darn close (witness @Boogie 's guide dog pups) but they are still animals and not machines. I unconsciously set Carbon up to fail on that first first absconding down the beach. First time off lead in two months, so if I wanted him by my side I should have not let him do the wild zoomies that proceeded the absconding. But oh the zoomies were SO joyful and frankly worth winding him up. The second time with the ball...well, that's his Achilles Heel so I can't be mad about him going off.

He was then way too excited to help me on the stairs. I talked to our trainer about that yesterday and she said I could have done some calming games with him for several minutes before trying to get him to work on the stairs. D'oh! I know this and in Regensburg or Cornwall I would have done this. At the beach in California? Just forgot!

Our trainer said, "Well, some humans have a hard time generalising just like dogs." Ouch - but oh so true. :wasntme:

I see you don't have the boot on
I'm trying to ditch the boot and the cane so that my foot gets stronger. It's going ok even if still waddle like a duck.

Ohmigosh, could your pops look any more American if he tried?! :D
My dad says, "What does she mean by that?". Does it have anything to do with him always dressing in head to toe beige? :giggl:

Love the chipmunks too (although didn't see them on the video??)
They were the illusive Norteño Sand Chipmunks...they are very shy. I was quite lucky to have captured their mating calls. :sneaky:

Haha! It's the whole picture - the way he's stood with his hands in his pockets, the clothes, the shoes, the sunglasses.... and the lady (his partner?) is so typically American, too! They should have their own TV show. I love it, hilarious!
Yes, that's his partner (or as they say in the good ol' US, his girlfriend). Sweetest lady ever. I do agree that they look American (as admittedly do I): their clones are all over Regensburg off the cruise ships. :D

I read this aloud to my dad and he says huffily, "Well, what do English people look like?!"

So I had to give that a think and this is what I came up with. Wellies. Lots of olive drab. Trousers tucked into wellies or high boots. Something earth tone plaid. Quilted vests (waistcoats). What else?

Clearly most of the English people I am around are dog walkers. :giggl:

Haha, that’s definitely the country dog walker look. Then you have the Brits Abroad look: men in football shirts or “wife beater” vests, shiny white shorts and flip-flops; shaved head or very close crop; bottle of lager in one hand, fag in the other. A joy to behold. 😳

Makes me very glad to live in the tucked away rural corner of the Uk that I do! :). While it has it's disadvantages that, and the serious traffic in Devon near @FayRose , isn't one of them!

So, does Carbon have jet lag? Does he get a second wind at around 7pm? Is he waking up all night and looking at the clock—is it morning yet? Only half past midnight???

Whatever I dress in, smart, casual or scruffy, Germans speak to me in English the moment I walk in the shop/room.
.
Spaniards often talk to me in French! There are lots of expats of different flavours living around these parts, and we often play "guess the nationality". Dutch are especially easy to spot, but I couldn't say what in particular it is about them - although it's amazing how many of them wear orange :D
When we're in Andorra, we play "spot the Russian". Sadly, too easy a game. Just look for the hulking man wearing a jacket emblazoned with RUSSIA in massive letters (usually a replica of the Olympic team kit) and a woman with perfectly coiffured bleached-blonde hair, with a very tightly tailored style that gives you a slight 80s feeling, and with every collar and cuff fur-trimmed.

My son is a nurse in Germany, patients usually think he’s German, but those who realise he isn’t guess all sorts of nationalities - never English!

Mind you - he even speaks English in a German accent now. He never uses English unless we are over there - which is why I’m avidly learning German ready for the arrival of BabyOne!
