The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

I at first thought you had bought Carbon a Coke!
Thanks to @Beanwood and various people on Porthcothan beach, Carbon prefers a milky coffee!

Is the week with your father the end of your trip?
Yep, sadly only one week left. This time next week we'll be getting on plane to Munich. When planning I was debating between a 3 or 4 week stay - shoulda been four weeks, but live and learn.

I hope you managed to get some sleep!
Actually feeling the Coke hangover today. I'm such a lightweight - though only in terms of coffee and alcohol.

We're back at Dad's and Carbon is loving all the free toys we got at the SD Dog fundraiser in Reno last weekend. Petsmart was giving big bags away and I saved them for here as there are less things here to break at Dad's house. Only hiccup was that I was too slow removing Monkey from my zippered luggage so Carbon got into the shopping bags and dragged out my new fleece vest that I just bought yesterday. I was confused - he never bothers my stuff - until I realised it looks EXACTLY like his fleece blanket that we left in the TARDIS at home. Such a clever boy! Plus he doesn't hurt anything, just carries around so no harm done to the vest.

Sad to have left Mimi's but happy to see Dad again. Carbon is REALLY happy to see Dad again. Apples! Chips! Other food items I don't want to know about! Anyway, Dad is Carbon's favourite, that's for sure.

I find that it’s best to err on longer when visiting family and shorter when going on a work trip. Regardless, saying goodbye to family is hard no matter the amount of time spent together. At least Carbon is traveling with you—when going away, saying goodbye to Snowie is always my hardest!

Carbon is hilarious with the LAT and the fish!! He’s such a good boy. A thumping tail is a definite asset—always works a charm!

Love hearing your updates. You have the best turn of phrase.

Just a very short note to say that Carbon and I have made it back to Regensburg. It was an interesting flight, some good and not so good moments, so I need to right it up properly after I've had a good sleep.

The longer flight was no problem whatsoever (yeah for a bladder of steel). Take off and landing were hard for Carbon as it clearly brought up memories of our turbulent flight between Denver and San Jose. However I had some tricks up my sleeve that I'd planned with his trainer: by the time we landed, Carbon's tail was wagging like mad once again.

The biggest issue was a white boxer SD who went after Carbon at the security checkpoint and again at the gate. I was not on my game at the security point (long story) but managed it well at the gate and in the plane. Luckily the dog and his human were seated several rows behind us and dogs are not allowed to move in the cabin during the flight, so no worries of any dog shouting on the plane. We saw the boxer again at the baggage claim but by the then Carbon was treating him just like any other dog: volunteering LAT and focusing on me. Thank goodness Labradors are so food fixated. :sneaky:

Anyway, wild ride! Very happy to get into my little car tonight and happy with our cheap and cheerful IBIS Budget tonight. Tomorrow Carbon gets his worm treatment so we can enter the UK, then off to Wiesbaden, Dunkirk, @Beanwood Farm and then @RosieC 's. If Carbon knew what was coming, he'd be too excited to sleep!

Two dogs on a plane?? I’m still yet to see one!!

Could Carbon’s ears be hurting on take-off and landing? I have to blow my nose and equalize, I have very sensitive ears. Perhaps he could lick something at the time—for human babies, they recommend sucking.

Welcome “home”!

Could be - it's hard to know as dogs are so stoic about pain. However he seemed completely unfazed by take off and landing on our first flight (Munich to Denver) so my best guess is that the turbulence from the Denver to SJ was what made this fight yesterday harder. Still he was doing very well on the landing once he got into the rhythm of working (we did nose touches, chin rests and eye contact games). That seemed to be the magic bullet that worked. :)

This morning he seems full of beans and happy as a clam. We're off to the vet now, then to the Old Town to pick up my spare car keys from Nadine and leave her the Toll House cookie ingredients I brought for her from the US (can't buy them in Germany). Then it's off to Wiesbaden!
