I've just got back from our regular vet. I actually thought we were doing well as Carbon's mood is so much better today and he was able to walk all the way to the car with me for the first time. I wasn't even planning on trying it, but he seemed so bouncy that I thought he'd enjoy the walk, which he did.
However his bloods were worse today and his tongue, gums and eyes are paler. Dr. Patzak feels that he's lost too much blood and that he should have another surgery asap to close up the wound in his ex-scrotum. She talked to the clinic where his surgery was done and he has another appointment there this afternoon.
I told her about my experiences there and she was upset on my behalf. She said I shouldn't go back there for surgery if I'm uncomfortable, but she said she does think that the surgeon who operated on him should look at him and then discuss the situation with myself and Dr. Patzak. The only issue, which is rather a big one, is that the other clinics that she would recommend for this type of issue are in Nüremburg and Kelheim, 60 and 45 minutes drive away. Of course I don't mind the drive, but worry a bit about potential follow up care.
She was very kind and even sent out one of her vet techs whose Yorkie had the same surgery in the US and needed a blood transfusion because of it. She was a human ER nurse but said even she was quite shocked when she saw what had been done to her dog. She and I talked a bit and she had had a similar experience at the clinic where Carbon had his surgery. If nothing else, this made me feel better that I'd not been treated that way because I'm an "overly emotional American". Apparently they are simply jerks to everyone.
Both my vet and the vet tech assured me that all this will have a good outcome. Together "Team Carbon" will get this sorted.
