Well done for getting there Emily!!! Explain to me please about the doggy wetsuit????
Um, it's a wetsuit...for a dog? 🤷‍♀️

Carbon never swam in winter in Cornwall, but he loved it so much in May and June that I thought if I got him a wetsuit, he wouldn't feel so cold and he would go into the water. And he did, so it worked!

It's just like a human wetsuit - made of neoprene. It could fit a little tighter, they really need half sizes as the next size down was too small. But he doesn't seem to mind it now and maybe having it a bit loose is more comfortable even if that means it isn't as warm.

I also wanted something very bright, so that he is more visible in winter water. I bought a life jacket and waterproof blinky light as well, so once I've lulled him into complacency with the wetsuit, I'll give the life jacket a go.

Yes but if it was an experiment did you see if he would go in without it?

Well, he wouldn't go into the water last year in January. On the other hand, he swam a lot in May/June, so maybe he learned to love the water more so would have gone in regardless.

Yes, I know a dog wetsuit is silly!

I was relived when my landlady told me she's seen quite a few dogs down here with them on. At least any new friends won't laugh at him (too much). 😉

I dont think it's silly at all if it gets him in it's all good. If he's happy it's perfect

Lovely.
Were there actually any people there?
Not many! There was one old guy playing a guitar and a few people walking their dogs, but very sedate. Most shops are closed in January, though the one lonely cafe that was open seemed to be doing good business in takeaway coffee. I actually really like it this time of year because you can look in all the shop windows and appreciate the little cottages without danger of being crushed by the crowd, and the people you do cross paths with say hello or (especially if they have a dog too) will stop for a quick chat.

As much as I love the house here, for some reason this year I'm feeling a bit more lonely than usual, so it was nice to get out and see some humans. 😊
