Pues amigos, that is our last day in Rome, “done and dusted” as you Eeeeeenglish people say! There wil be more photos but tonight my editor is being parasosa, lazy, so what can you do, sabes?

On our last wee walk, we saw this sign, which I officially adopt as an excellent Labrador motto:

ML here. We arrived in what I thought would be a lovely relaxing place and there’s NO HEAT. And one thin cover (not a duvet) for the bed. We’re going to freeze tonight. The owner answered me to say ‘turn on the heat’ but none of the controls on any level of the house work. Could be batteries, if so, then I’d happily go out and buy them, but who knows. Owner stopped replying to me . This place is non refundable and a complete splurge, so just walking out not really an option . I’m so disappointed and feel rather defeated.

On the bright side , Carbón will help warm me up on bed at least. I can also wear all my layers and winter coat. I’ve done it before, just don’t usually pay so much for the privilege!

The owner has sent his father to fix it after my increasingly irritated messages over 2 hours. His father is lovely but has been here an hour and doesn’t have a clue how to fix it. At least he’s trying. Carbón is following him around and is in love.

Well…he went out and bought me an electric heater. Which is small but does heat a small space better than nothing. However it’s just a little bright. Like on the beach at noon in Spain bright. This may be the night for sleep meds.

I’m going to see how I feel about all this tomorrow and maybe see if I can go to Florence a day early. I don’t do cold, especially with most of my skin being burn scars, it doesn’t regulate temps like normal skin. And yeah,I’m too darned old to go back to the youth hostel days of sleeping in all my clothes.

As I always say, this is what credit cards are for.

That really is VERY bright! Hope you manage to sleep OK and get something more satisfactory sorted out soon.
I can't help wondering why anyone would make such a bright heater though.....did whoever it was think it would give the impression of giving out more heat than it actually does? It's not even as if it's a warm coloured sort of brightness. I am mystified!

I cannot understand lights on devices that are used in hotel rooms. Like aircons and smoke detectors. My pet peeves. Looking forward to a good nights sleep, switch off the lights… to discover that the smoke detector light glows eerily all night long.

That heater IS crazy bright but I’m simple amazed the owners father was able to go out at 7:30pm and find anything at all to buy. I thought he was just going to bring one he had at home to lend me! So in this case, beggars can’t be choosers and I appreciated the effort. And I was so tired at the end of the day yesterday that is really didn’t matter all that much. This morning when I woke up at 5am however, I was confused thinking I’d miraculously slept past sunrise and it was sunlight in the room!

So thanks in large part to Señor Carbón’s excellent under cover sleeping habit, we’re back on track this morning. The bedroom with the door closed and that heater was warm enough and overnight the rest of the house has gotten warm enough from the radiators that the father was able to fix enough last night. I would have never thought it possible, but…yay! The lower levels are still a little chilly , but the last/3rd floor with the living room and terrace are perfectly cozy so I’m happy and relieved.

Now to get some food as the stores were closed by the time the owners father left last night, and take Carbón out for a wee walk. We’re just going to have a doddle and a rest day today.

Amigos, I am back! Sí, sí, I absolutely saved the day yesterday evening by keeping ML warm and giving her a big smile by being so sweet with the man who came to fix our heating. Oh, and did I mention that I also got us into a special security line at the Rome train station? ML says it was just a regular line, but the man there asked my name and said it was the special “Carbón line”, so it must be la verdad, the truth, no?

The train trip itself was a leetle tiring for me as it was so crowded that I had to mash myself into a small furry ball. ML got us “Premium” seats but should have splashed out on “Business” - I am worth it, no? She apologised and says she will change our next tickets so that I can go in better style - mucho mejor.

All of that to say that today we are having a rest. Siena is so nice and quiet after Rome, with lots of small streets that remind me a little of Regensburg if Regensburg was built on a steep hill. Do you know from the train station you get to the hilltop with escalators? I have never been on so many!

And even though ML moaned about the lack of heating, I love this house! The stairs are so fun to go up and down , the sofa is excellently comfortable , and I have so many spaces to explore . Que bien! There is even a special bed just for me in the kitchen.

We went for a small wee walk this morning where I could take all the time in the world to smell every inch and ML could admire the pretty buildings.

We even found a little pool at the end of our street.


And for amiga @Jelinga , unlike Rome we really WERE all alone - no special camera angles required!
