The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Amigos, a few more from Šibenik before we drive up north today. De verdad, I am glad to be magically transported in the TARDIS for the entire day as my leeeetle paws are tired from all our adventures lately. I will lay on my comfy bed and have a deleeeeecious siesta until we reach Rovinj.

Pues, then three last days in Croatia before we say adios to this beautiful country.

ML and I are glad we came, but also looking forward to Italy. ML so she can talk to people and me because Italians LOVE dogs and seem to always carry food in their pockets for us. Ojalá!

Our second visit to Šibenik was just as nice as the first. Long may all the group tours go to Dubrovnik and leave Šibenik to be its quieter prettier sister!

What a funny sign: what does “inspired by AC” mean? I think it means they were inspired to put air conditioning in the apartment, but in the end did not!
IMG_9961.jpeg

Look at this sweet little permanent dog water dish on the street! It was even filled with fresh clean water. It says “love of dogs” in Italian, so maybe left by the Venetians when they ruled the city?

And finally a leeeetle Croatian flag heart to show our love of Šibenik: muchas gracias for two wonderful adventure days!

It looks such an interesting town. Stupid question coming up - are the buildings built so close and narrow alleys to be cool?

Probably? That is certainly the case in Carbon’s homeland of Andalusia - and it does make a big difference in summer! Of course some of the lanes in Regensburg are narrow enough to touch each side as you walk through and they weren’t building to stave off heat. There it was more the poorer (in the Middle Ages) neighborhoods just tended to have narrower lanes due to lack of space.

Thank you, hadn't thought about lack of space! :)

That beach is no fun!

:wasntme:
I know! Pfft! But La verdad is also that the stones are no good for my leeeetle paws anyway, so in general Croatia was not going to be a swimming spot for me. It is for brave dogs who jump off docks and like to swim in deeper water. I like shallow water and big waves to hit me in the cabeza!

ML says there may be a sandy beach for me in Tuscany but not to get my hopes up for waves. The Mediterranean and the Adriatic: both flat as pancakes. Qué lastima!

Pues amigos, our last day in Croatia is nearly done! We have been here over three weeks, though it feels like at least six months. Ja, ja, I keeeed, just a joke. It is very nice here, especially Istria which is really more like Italy…if it was organized by the Austrians.

Did you know that there is a special dialect spoken here that is mainly Italian? ML has given up trying to speak Croatian and has embraced speaking Italian only. Much less stress! Also people on the street are more friendly and open, which is more fun because I get more pets. No treats yet though - I think you have to be an actual Italian to always carry biscuits in your pockets.

A few photos before we go out for our last sunset walk. Tomorrow the TARDIS will magically transport us to the countryside in Tuscany, and Monday ML and I visit our amiga Cecilia in Florence. She used to be our Italian teacher but this spring she told ML that after 18 years, they are not teacher and student anymore but simply FRIENDS. Che bello, non? I got a leeetle misty over that. ❤

Adios Rovinj, you are the prettiest Venetian town that is not in Venice.

A seagull amigo, just as cheeky as in Cornwall.

A leaf fell on my head as I was modelling for this. It is a dangerous job I have!

The best sun lounger spot on the Adriatic.
IMG_0088.jpeg

We had a picnic here and watched the fishermen.
IMG_0085.jpeg

Croatia is the land of scooters, even more than Italy.
IMG_0078.jpeg

ML was very proud of me for doing a leeetle smile here. I do try my best, sabes?

Sometimes you do not need a post box, just a slot in the door.
IMG_0080.jpeg

A fisherman at sunset. I humor ML for these kind of shots: she gets a leeetle overly poetic now and then. Especially at sunset when her feet hurt.

Buenas noches, Rovinj!

Super photos, but no people about! :)
It is so strange! There were hoards of tourists everywhere we went - even the first day on Korčula (the island). And then BOOM! All gone! Well, not ALL. There are still the random Chinese groups and intrepid German here and there, but by and large, it’s now just locals.

95% of the tourist shops are closed completely with ‘see you May 2026’ signs. When the Croatians close up shop, they’re not kidding!

Also the majority of today’s photos I took early morning on a public holiday, so even ‘normal people’ shops were closed. It was just Carbón, me, and loads of seagulls. 😁
