The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

It looks lovely. Where in France are you?
We are in northern Brittany, Amiga Candy! It is very pretty, muy bonito, but sadly not very nice for us dogs, especially in summer. Thanks to our accommodation host, we found a leeeetle corner of a harbor about 30 minutes away where I could do my swimmy swims, but even that was ‘illegal’. Whatever that means - as a dog, I am not really sure!

Otherwise the other beaches that are listed online as ‘dogs tolerated on lead’ either do not actually allow dogs, are made of sharp shale which could hurt my paws, or are known for green algae in summer which ML says can kill me, so… pfft!

Entonces, ML and I agree that we probably will not be visiting Brittany again unless passing through to take the ferry. Qué lástima, but as ML says “If Carbón can’t go, I don’t go either!”

That does not mean we have not been appreciating the beauty of Brittany with my paws staying where they are allowed and safe. Auntie @kateincornwall recommended Concarneau and it was beautiful! And yesterday we went to the magical island of Bréhat and walked until we (nearly) dropped.

Carbon snuggling into bed with you—my kind of bliss. ❤ I was just thinking of Snowie last night (it was very cold), how in winter he’d lie right up against me in bed. I loved it! And missed him last night ever more.
Oh, I hear you.

I remember the first night of having Carbón and Paul home from the shelter as foster dogs and them laying on top of me. It was like I relaxed for the first time in forever. Nothing like a puppy snuggle.

Pues, that was our last day in Brittany! I really hope my old ML catches up on the editing so you can see more photos of your Spanish gentleman, as I really have been working muchisimo!

Today ML finally found a spot for swimmies - illegal again but what can you do? - but I wanted to play with human children, a golden retriever baby cachorro, and a nice swimmy man more than I wanted my ball. ML just was not listening and threw it anyway, so I re-enacted my existential crisis of last week, letting the ball gently float out to sea as a comment on the fleetingness of life, etc etc.

Then ML screamed “I did not bring that ball all the way from Cornwall and spend two hours to find you an illegal beach for you to lose the ball and NOT SWIM!”

De verdad, she is un poco high string some times. Pero comprendo, I understand. We both are feeling sad at how many months we have until we can have swimmies in Cornwall again or really any beach for that matter.

So I swam and got my ball, ML calmed down and told me I am the Best Boy Ever and did not have to swim anymore if I did not want to, and we went back to the TARDIS to have another kind of last day in Brittany: road safari! We just drove and got out anywhere we wanted, and when we got tired, we got back in the car and drove a leeeetle more. Qué bien!

Here is my last illegal French swimmy spot (sandy bit not pictured)

And here I am looking chic and sophisticated as I channel my inner Alain Delon in the surprisingly bonito town of Lannion

Hola amigos! Yesterday we said Goodbye to the Sea on a morning walk in Brittany. It was so bonito and we had mucho appreciation for how the French provide such nice public spaces. Vale, they are not so good at dog-friendly, but they are very good at people-friendly, and sometimes - like yesterday - I also get to enjoy it.

Goodbye to the Sea is ML’s and my tradition: we believe if we say goodbye for now and thank you for being so bonito, we will be lucky enough to see it again. Ojalá!

Safe travels. 10 hours driving?! In one day??
Easy peasy for the Señor - he barely woke up all day! But yes, 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Ugh. And I’m really bad traffic and construction zones after crossing into Germany. It was bad planning on my part, won’t do it again. And yesterday was 7 hours, but broken up by our visit to say goodbye to the sea and 2 hours in Dinan.

As the French say, I’m cooked. 🤪

Carbón is doing great. He needed a down day and he got one. 🥰

Tomorrow nearly everything in my car goes into storage, I pack my bags for California, and I meet my two German friends in the evening.

Then my Spanish Gentleman and I leave for the airport at 4am the following day. I’m usually so tired by then that I actually relish doing nothing on the airplane for 11 hours.

Already booked for Cornwall next year. Let the countdown officially begin!

Carbón will return - and he’ll be miffed I hijacked his thread. 🫢
