The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

I’d be asking the landlord to fix it. But I think I know the smell you mean. With the drought and very little water going down our shower drain (we catch the water for flushing the toilet), the drain can start to smell.

I honestly can hardly smell it anymore now that I've cooked Carbon's broccoli in the apartment. I'll try the dishwasher tablet and boiling water trick and see how that goes. It's not the end of the world and if I ask the landlord about it, in all likelihood I'll end up spending half the day or more waiting on a plumber and it still won't be fixed until after I leave. It's not worth the hassle.

I had an apartment that I absolutely loved in the centre of Florence right behind the Uffizi about ten years ago. I lived there for nearly six months. The bathroom drain always had a very odd smell - much more 'sewer' than this place now which is more 'old cabbage'. I can't say that I learned to actually love the smell, but when I smell it other places on occasion, I take a big whiff and sigh, "Awww, Florence!". :D

Our bathroom always smells a bit cabbagy after being away for a few months; as @M.F. says, it's because the water hasn't been going down the drain and what's in the U-bend dries up. A few flushes and showers later, and it's back to normal.

Nearly a week at our tiny little abode, so that must mean it's time for an update. :D

First things first, Carbon is doing just fine. The pharmacy had a slip up on his stomach protector tablets so he's not had any for a week, but he's shown zero signs of tummy issues. Well, I don't count him vomiting up all his treats at the raw food store. Petra fed him WAY TOO MANY treats and she'd been warned. I'm chalking that episode up to "you get what you ask for" territory. :sneaky:

Otherwise he's now on a massive assortment of meds and supplements which seems to be working. Tomorrow he starts eight days of prednisone, so we'll see how THAT goes. I'm ready for an even hungrier hungry dog!

On my side, still no news from my lawyer on my residence permit. Argh!!! I've extended my stay in Regensburg for yet another week, but then I have to fly the coop as I've rented a house in Cornwall for March. Therefore the countdown begins and I'm calling on the Power of the Lambies to get some positive news on my permit before the end of next week. I am ok to leave Germany - not doing anything illegal or anything - so the worst case scenario is having to do a quick fly back to Germany from the UK. Rather not - especially my pocket book would rather not - but it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Some great news for both Carbon and me: next week my regular apartment in the old town of Regensburg is available so we're moving back 'home' for our last week in Germany.

I cannot even express what a relief this is. Doing the happy dance! :happyfeet:

I'm also thrilled to be going back to Cornwall to the same house @Beanwood and I stayed in last November. There's a bit of shuffling back and forth between the larger house and the cottage next door to accommodate pre-existing bookings, but I'll be more or less in the same place for two months. I'm going to sound like a broken record, but...

And in an odd turn of events, I am once again employed and started back today. My old company has been trying to figure out how to hire me this time around since December. As the previous two attempts were unsuccessful due to legal and logistics, I'd not really had much hope for this time around.

Every few weeks since early December, I'd get some new form to fill out or some other contract to which I needed to sign my name in blood. I'd just about forget about the whole thing and a new email would come asking for something else. The last thing was trying to force through a billing before the end of the fiscal quarter, which saw me sending emails back and forth at 3am - the joys of working with California.

Anyway, rather unbelievably they finally got it sorted and I'm back on the books. It's only part time - which I'm happy about actually - and I'm not REALLY sure how I feel about the whole thing.

But hey...now I no longer have to shift awkwardly about and search for a change in topic when people ask me what I do for a work. :wasntme:

Carbon is exhausted after his first day as an office dog. I was on the phone for four hours and he thought he was going to DIE with wanting his dinner and needing to go out and "Oh oh oh, can we have a play now?". He had a couple bursts of trying to crawl into my lap and there was lots of going between the bed and the floor while sighing loudly. The upshot is that he's now curled up next to me in bed, seemingly very relieved that the horrible ordeal of being ignored for so long is over. Poor pup, he's in for a RUDE awakening as it's only just beginning!

The lambies are amassing!
Yep, just need one more little bit of luck with that pesky residence permit...

Spencer also tries to crawl on my knee when he’s bored bored boooored
I was worried it was that Carbon truly needed a wee, but in the end it was just as you say: bored, bored, booooored! Poor abused pup! (who is happily snoring next to me now...)

Hurrah! The number of times I’ve been on work calls, which I do through my computer, and I’ve had to explain the strange noises coming from my end as one of the dogs starts doing something ridiculous. These days it’s normally Ginny rolling round on her back and groaning in delight. I can’t leave that one unexplained 😂

Yes, there was a bit of heavy panting which I had to explain to the support person who was setting up my new work email. I didn't want him to think I was trying to turn a support call into an obscene phone call.

Lovely update, Emily. So pleased things are coming together for you. And you express it all so entertainingly!

When I’m on a work call and Snowie wants attention, he goes to dig in the sofa! Yep, that gets me up and paying attention! Thankfully I work for an extremely dog-friendly company so I can be honest about why I need to leave the call and know the person on the other end will understand. But there was the time that someone else in my house made a loud noise of suspect origin while I was on a group call, and someone on the call asked, What was thaaat???
