If it was just a long claw scratch that was bleeding a bit I hope they gave her very short shrift there. It probably dried up by the time she was seen

No it was a small but deep gouge. It was bad. But definitely not A&E bad.

So sorry Sue, but try not to worry about it. The stupid woman needs her head testing. Fancy ring the police and going to A&E, they have enough to do without the likes of her. The policeman didn't seem that trouble about it or they would of been straight there.

I'm so sorry this happened @edzbird, I can only imagine how you are feeling. Maxx is jumping up at people again and every time he is off the leash I am in a state of high anxiety, worried that something like this will happen. He made a lady's arm bleed when we were down the coast a week ago but luckily she was a dog owner and shrugged it off. I do think this woman overreacted hugely.

For goodness sake, what a drama queen. Surprised she didn't try for a newspaper article, radio interview, and TV appearance, all taking place in the back of an ambulance for good measure. [Where's the 'Snowflake' emoticon when you want one?!]

Obviously it wasn't an ideal reaction when walking by but it was a scratch caused by an accident - nothing sinister or malicious. She strikes me as being the sort that will have relished the opportunity to seek some attention - poor hubby will probably be waiting on her hand and foot for the next week or two while she milks it for all she can ;-) And I'm sure the police have got better things to focus on than an attention seeker with a scratch.

Try not to let it get to you Sue, there are some strange people around these days.

Exactly what @Jen said both times. People do over react and it seems ridiculous sometimes but it's how they are. Not your fault at all, it seems you did your best to avoid this woman so an accident in anyone's book. The policeman sounded lovely, hopefully the follow up wont be much, we've had worse things happen and they've not turned up. Poor you.

The police finally called last night - they just telephoned thankfully. He was lovely and said that as the dog was on the lead, no offence had been committed, but he was emphatic that I should take measures to avoid repeat incidents. He said that the woman had been to the police station following the incident and that she was still receiving treatment! He said that while no offence had taken place it was not to say she wouldn't take civil action.

I’m a litigation solicitor and I would be very VERY shocked if anyone thought that was worth dealing with.

Her client care letter would cost more to write than the compensation she would receive.

Regardless of what people think stress and inconvenience is not a claim you can generally make (even though people love to try and claim it ) and psychological injury for a dog scratch? Very very unlikely.

So her compensation would be a scratch on her hand. I think she would be one of those calls you come off the phone from like seriously...?!
