Throwing up -a lot

Thank you everyone, feeling so relieved by the news of my mom. Now fingers crossed Axel’s ok.

I dropped Axel off 4 hours ago. Poor boy was starving. Knocked over two containers full of treats in the waiting room, pulling and whining and trying to get to them. Poor little monkey☹ But I know he’s getting lots of attention by the girls there tonight, they all adored him.

I’m letting Gizmo sleep with me tonight as the thought of sleeping alone is just too sad. Gizmo is quite pleased with this new (temporary) sleeping arrangement 😛

Just wonderful news about your mum! Really hope you get to the bottom of poor Axel's vomiting. Won't be long before you are spoiling him rotten!

So happy for you that your mum brought such fantastic news! The best Christmas present ever!

Hope the vet can figure out what is going on with Axel. But in the meantime, he will get food soon, which is all he cares about! :)

Well, my boy is home! He’s a bit dopey, and whimpering here and there but I imagine that’s the anesthesia. He just looks very sad 😞.

He had very liquid diarrhea as soon as we got home, which surprised me as he should be empty after no food for 72 hours. Anyways, I gave him a tiny amount of food and hoping it sits ok.

The scope went very well, no lesions found at all! The Vet did find a few scars in his stomach, so he biopsied those to see if they were ulcers. I can’t help but wonder if those scars are from when he ate his cone? That was two years ago though...

There was some small indication that he could have acid reflux. Something about the sphincter into the stomach was open, the vet said he usually has some difficulty getting into dogs stomachs because it’s supposed to be closed, but his was open a touch so he had no problem.

Bottom line though - he’s just fine. I will feed him three times a day from now on and see if that helps. If not I will look in to treatment for acid reflux.

Now to relaxxxxxxx😊

Yay! Yay! Yay!!!!!! What a relief!

When Snowie came out of anaesthesia, he was very weird. Took a few hours to wear off.

Have you considered changing his diet? Kibble is highly processed and high in carbs. Would you consider cooking fresh food or feeding him raw meat and raw meaty bones? I was at lecture where a vet, who’s responsible for a police canine unit, as well as his own private practice, spoke about the benefits of raw feeding. The police dogs were all kibble fed (strict regulations), and he said that based on the cases he saw, the kibble remain undigested for hours—he saw cases of bloat; no cases of bloat from the raw-fed clients. I know Axel doesn’t have bloat, but you did mention vomiting up undigested kibble.

When Snowie was vomiting a lot (when he had HGE), the vet recommended kefir (fermented milk). Tons of probiotics. That was when he turned the corner. He still gets a cup most nights.

I hope you find a solution that works for Axel and you. At least now you know it’s nothing sinister.
