Toby's Eighth Charmed Life

I'm amazed at how many said yes. I loaded them up with treats and explained what I wanted. At first Toby lunged and barked so the guy just threw down treats, took his jacket off and laid it near the treats. Toby went to the treats and after went to sniff the jacket. There were a few false starts but after a few goes he got the idea and would approach the hi viz demon slowly, looking for treats. By the time I had taken him around a couple of times he was allowing them to pet him still with them wearing their jackets. I will do this over the time they are around until I am able to get him to look for treats when he sees these jackets.
Great work @Aitch

Oh, your post brought tears to my eyes @Aitch . So moving having all those workmen getting involved. I, too, look forward to reading more about your adventures with Toby.

Absolutely wonderful update, @Aitch . Beyond the love you have for Toby, knowing what he needs to get over his fears and having the knowledge to work with him is priceless. I love that you've drafted in the workmen and am very impressed that Toby was already taking food from them.

That Amber - should have known that so-innocent face was hiding a trouble maker. Hey, the "Quiet One" has to make her mark on the house, right?

I love that he's continued to have his chats with Alex. He just glommed onto to Alex at first sight, it was pretty amazing. It really makes me think that they have long complex discussions in Spanish. I imagine Alex saying, "And then this lady came!" and Toby saying, "Si, si, hombre, me TOO. I got kidnapped to a place with PILLOWS!" and Alex, "Me too! And then a long drive!" and Toby, "Oh si, that was the worst, no?"....and on and on.

Are they still 'discussing' at such high decibel levels? If yes, add that as another feather in your sainthood cap. Wow, they were loud. :giggl:

Jeez..but my eyes are leaking...wonderful! I still can't quite believe that @Emily_Babbelhund actually pulled this off, after all the tears and worry she went through...:hug:
You need to come back to Cornwall for a weekend where I'm NOT spending the whole of it crying on your shoulder about what to do about Toby! May be a little more relaxing for you...though I sure do appreciate the well-timed shoulder! :giggle:

Toby is already settling in (even though Amber is still being a dick) and is happy.
He has been exhibiting pain. I took him back to the vet who said he was a bit stiff in his back legs. After being manipulated by the vet he had a horrible evening where he couldn't sleep because he was in pain. I was beside myself. I emded up giving him Onsior ( very low dose) I contacted Emily. The wonderful @Emily_Babbelhund told me that he may not have been walked for quite some time. What she said clicked. If I get some unusual exercise I get achey so why shouldn't he? I have cut his walks in half in the hope that ends the pain.
He loves carrots. If he doesn't have carrots in his portion of food he gives me a filthy look! He also loves apple and these are so useful for training treats without adding too much to his purine levels.
He has, very obviously, lost all memory of socialization. He has no idea. I will start with very gentle meetings and work up.
Toby's general training is coming along beautifully and I just loooooove his cuddles with me. He is the sweetest little guy.
