Too many toilet rolls?

We have had a boxful of toilet roll tubes waiting for me to plant sweet peas in. I finally got round to planting this morning but had a few tubes left over which Kipper was very excited about- so we invented* a game called ‘kibble roll search’. You’ll probably have come across it in various forms, but could be a good wet weather game round the house, or round the garden etc.
(*pretty sure this isn’t new)
in short, take a tube, fold over one end:

Then stick a couple of kibble in (or other smelly treat) and fold up the other end:

Keeping the hound in another room, hide the tubes in reachable places (if this is an early game of ‘find it’ make it easy to keep it fun):

Tadaa! You can cue it with ‘find it!’ or similar to begin the game, and end with an ‘all done’ type phrase and a scatter to keep it upbeat.

Good idea!

When you use them for sowing sweet peas how do you prevent the tubes becoming soggy and collapsing? I haven't grown sweet peas for a few years and mine are never that great but I've got some 'old fashioned' seeds that I bought at a garden in the autumn to sow this spring. I wonder if I should try to use tubes to avoid pricking them out?

Well, it’s a bit hit & miss - but I initially put them all in an old plastic window box in the cold frame so they’re upright and supported, and then by the time the roots have developed they tend to ‘hold’ if you’re gentle (which I’m not! :D). It’s like pie slices, the first one tends to be messy but once you’ve made a little room you can ease them out and slide them into the soil, soggy remains of cardboard tube and all - which avoids the pricking out as you say.

Thanks @HAH I'll give it a go - but I don't have a cold frame so I think I'd better wait a few weeks.
Probably wise, if you could put a pane of glass or clear plastic over the top that would do the job? Keeping the birds/mice off might be the biggest issue

Hmm, yes we've got squirrels in the garden today (driving Molly insane), always pigeons around and neighbours' cats can be a nuisance, so covering is a good idea.

Great game! I’ve used loo rolls folded like this, but have never thought to hide them like that. Genius! Another thing you can do is fill a box with the rolls all standing on end, then sprinkle treats in.
