I have kept telling my brother that I can't work out how to answer the 'phone ( landline) when it rings. He is totally mystified by this and tells me to just pick it up and speak into it ' like a normal person'(!) Well, how was I supposed to know that this is in fact the doorbell? I mean, what would you think?

Little Joy, a far superior being to myself, clearly knew all along that it is a doorbell, in that she barks when it rings. At home she barks at the doorbell but not the phone. She's obviously more high tech than me.

And a phonebook icon! Why would your doorbell have that? Unless it has a list of your contacts and if you're not on the list it tells you to bog off?
