Trip to the emergency vet for Hunter

Yesterday I was woken up at 4:30 with Hunter hitting the cat flap. So I let him outside and the pooh poured out of him. He settled down. He wanted breakfast. At lunch my husband sends photos of foam sick and he has diarrhea. I get home and there is now blood in his sick and blood in his pooh. He does not want food at all. He drinks all his water. Vomits (little blood) but seems to settle. At 10:00, cat flap knock and lots of blood in his squits. 15 mins later I am at the emergency vet (his vet was on call). Injections for his stomach pain and to stop being sick. Antibiotics. This morning was my first morning ever that I had no waggy tail greeting. No breakfast and stayed in his basket. I put my coat/hat etc on and that seemed to help and went for a 5 min walk and wee (very dark and milky wee but no blood). He had a few soaked kibble biscuits (not eaten for 24 hours)when we got back as I need to get antibiotics in him. Vet thinks a virus...I am not sure. Several dogs have been poisoned in my area... He is now sleeping. No throwing up but very unhappy. Ringing the vet later. Do you think it sounds like an infection? I am worried that it could be a blockage?

Oh no Lorraine, I am sorry to read this , poor sweet boy.

Good that you managed to have his own vet. Reading your post, it does sound more like an infection than a blockage but you already have your vets advice and will be guided by them I'm sure.

Agree with others, probably a good idea to mention poisonings (so horrible) xx

Oh that sounds awful.

When the emergency vet suspected Ella had a blockage they did xrays. In hindsight, the only issue was that there was clouding on the xray that lead them to operate but they ended up finding no blockage but lots of inflammation from a nasty virus.

Sending you lots of lambies. Let us know how you go xx

Oh poor darling, he does look poorly. Not typical of a blockage, but it could be a more long standing partial blockage that is causing a severe infection. Could be poisoning or haemorrhagic gastroenteritis. Back to vet to this morning for more examinations.

Oh poor boy.
Lilly did this one Christmas Eve, was virus made worse by being on NSAIDS.
Had to do soft diet Doggy Gavisvon ( that was a trauma) and something like omeprazole, after she had an anti sickness injection.
I really hope he is more himself soon.
Trying to keep fluids up is always the priority.
