UTI

Cassie has another urine infection. The last one was only a few weeks ago. She now has a 3 week course of antibiotics.
I just gave her a bit of kefir in water - partly to get more water into her and partly as I think I read that kefir might help. Does anyone have any ideas/experience to help prevent another recurrence?

No, vet checked and said it was ok.

Vet says that in puppies, the gap between wee and poo bits is short but that things move around after first season and gap gets bigger! If it doesn’t clear up after the three weeks of treatment, then they will have to investigate further. Hoping it doesn’t come to that!

I had completely forgotten, but now I think of it, Joy was rather prone to UTIs as a pup. I remember chasing round the garden after her in my pyjamas one night, trying to get a sample! We were also told that this was something she'd be likely to grow out of, and sure enough she hasn't had one since her first season (hope I'm not tempting fate here!)
I hope this is also the case for your Cassie.

I'm not an expert, although Poppy has just had a UTI. Obviously, make sure she access to drinking water at all times, and that she doesn't lie on the cold ground (though maybe this last one is just an old wives tale???). Good luck, I hope the antibiotics sort it out for her.

Try giving her some probiotics. They may help balance good bacteria which may prevent bad bacteria causing infection.

I’ve never had a dog with a UTI, but hope Cassie is on the mend soon and grows out of it. No fun at all for a dog or a human!
