Vaccination and lump investigation

Molly finally had her annual booster today and also had a lump on her back aspirated. It's being sent away and we'll have the results in about a week. I'm hopeful that it's not cancerous as she's had it for over a year and the last time the vet saw it he said he was pretty sure it was a cyst and that we should only intervene if it changed in any way. It hasn't changed but today it was a different vet who said it would be safer to take a sample from it.
Molly had to go in to the vets alone and was quite scared but actually not as bad as I had expected.

Fingers crossed that the lump is not cancerous. Harley has had 3 needle aspirated over the past year as has about 5 quite large lumps (about golf ball size). They are all lipomas luckily, but do worry you.

Hope it’s nothing. Snowie had a lump removed a few months ago (actually an enlarged lumpy nipple) and it was nothing. Just a lump caused from physical trauma. Probably from scratching—he gets itchy. I wish our vet had just done the aspiration, so much less traumatic for the dog.

I heard from the vet yesterday and Molly's lump is a mast cell tumour. She's booked in to have it removed on Tuesday. I'm so upset - partly at leaving it so long assuming it was nothing (though she had seen a different vet about it) and partly still wondering if I'm doing the right thing to put her through unpleasant surgery. (My OH was cross that I had it aspirated as he said it wasn't causing her any problems, and a friend with a dog who has a similar lump says her vet says needle aspiration is not accurate and doesn't advise it.) And of course I'm worrying in case it's spread.

I am so so sorry Joy , but I truly believe that surgery to remove and take margins is the right thing to do . Of course you have doubts, its only natural but I think you must put your faith on your own Vet . When Sam had his lump removed , he recovered really quickly , these dogs of ours are amazing , I will be thinking of you xxxx

Totally understand how worried you are... But don’t berate yourself for a second. In waiting and keeping an eye on it you did exactly as your first vet advised. On getting different advice you also did the right thing to immediately get it removed. And removal may have dealt with it. Did they get clear margins around it?

Sorry to hear this, it must be such a worry for you, but as Kate says, you're doing the right thing for your lovely Molly. When is she due to have it removed?

Oops, sorry, I see that the removal is yet to happen. Yes, definitely you are doing the right thing to get it removed, now that you know what it is. There is no doubt about that at all.
