Vaccinations

So sorry about Harley's lumps, but hopefully the vet will sort everything out for her

Good news about the vaccination. Sendy Harley lambies :thelambiesarecoming: :thelambiesarecoming:

It's interesting that vaccinations are being delayed.
Ella had her annual vaccinations in the middle of our strictest lockdown.

Isn't it funny how different countries see things differently. I was only allowed out my my house for an hour a day and wasn't allowed to see anyone outside my household but getting your pet vaccinated was still considered essential.

I’m sorry to hear of Harley’s woes. Hopefully the biopsies will be give back the result of benign. I can image how worried you are.

Regarding vaccination, I have read a lot of what this vet/prof (Ronald Schultz) has had to say: - University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine

Here’s an interesting albeit old (2003) article: Schultz: Dog vaccines may not be necessary

He’s written a kind of handbook for vaccination protocols, which if I can find again (been a few years since I was reading up on the topic), I’ll post here. I’m pretty sure it was on his guidance that the American Vet Assoc changed their vaccination guidelines to vaccinate every 3 years, not every 1 year.

Regarding the delay in titre testing, could it be that they didn’t have the test kit and needed to order it in?

Most vet supplies are on an order for the next day system. It would not take until the next week you can order stuff in the morning and get out in the pm. My friend is the manager of a large vet practice and they can get things quickly if they are not already in stock.

The UK vet system is so much more advanced than in SA! Some vets here will only titre test if you’re willing to use the entire kit, which I think includes 5 tests. And not all vets are au fait with titre testing at all. And it’s expensive to titre test—I guess cos it’s not the norm here (yet, hopefully!).

Found this on one of the local vet sites. I thought it may help someone

It may be that the next available appointment is not for several weeks, but we would like to reassure you that the vaccine manufacturers have advised that immunity in adult pets will last at least 15 months from the date of the last annual booster, so your pet will be safe for 3 months from the due date of their booster vaccination.

Red’s just had her booster vaccinations and annual check over. She’s 27kg which she was a year ago. The vet said 26kg would be better but said she’s all good. I agree about the weight - she’s at the top end of the norm but she looks good, gets lots of exercise and I weigh her food. I had to leave her and he said she was a very good girl - never heard a peep whilst she was in there 😀

I collected some food from the vets today and took the dogs to be weighed for their Advocate prescription too, as they haven’t been weighed for some while. After Wispa’s initial bark in the car park, they each went in happily with a receptionsit they didn’t know, but Tuppence came out faster than she went in! Wispa is 26kg, about normal for her, but Tuppence has lost a bit of weight, down to 22.5kg when she’s normally around 24kg. She‘s delighted that she’s now on extra rations!
