We've finally got rain! Just normal rain, falling vertically like it should, not sleet/hail/snow that looks like polystyrene, or the horizontal rain that we so often get, but proper falling straight down from the sky rain, the sort that fills the water butts and is good for the garden  GGJ keeps looking out at it and flapping, as if to say 'It's wet out there!'

It's badly needed here, not least because there's another fire up on Marsden Moor, near Huddersfield. Fire fighters have been tackling it for more than 48 hours now and it's spread over a huge area. It appears to have been started by a firework. The last one in 2019 was started by a barbecue  How can people be so stupid and thoughtless? At least this rain, which is quite heavy now should help to douse it a bit.

We haven't had any rain for quite a while either. The days are groundhog at the moment - lovely, warm and sunny during the day with highs in the low twenties. It's quite cold at night and in the morning and I turned the air-con dial from cool to warm last night and turned it on. We had such a mild summer I don't think we used our air-con more than about twice which is unheard of.

The cooler weather has brought Maxx alive; he is asking for much more play time and sleeping less during the day.

Just seen the local News and the fire on Marsden Moor has been put out. Six acres of serious damage though, to wildlife and wildlife habitat :'(
The person who let the firework off isn't facing prosecution as 'It wasn't intentional '. How do you set a firework off unintentionally? There are notices all over the Moors asking people not to do anything that could start a fire.

Like my hills @Candy. As tragic as fires are, I seem to remember that they can do some good. We used to have some large fires on the Malvern Hills but there are more strict rules about not having barbecues and less arsonists, so we haven't had any for ages.
