It’s much too hot to be in the garden here, even in the shade. A thermometer on my phone is showing 33C outside, with ‘feels like 37C’, and the temperature in my sitting room (on the shady side of the house) is nearly 28C.

Thank goodness my Scottish, heat-hating grandson got a portable aircon unit a couple of years ago, as he couldn’t cope with using his computer in the heat. At least we have a cool retreat downstairs! I don’t know how @Lab_adore, @Emily and @MrChew cope with the seemingly constant high temperatures in Australia!

I am sitting in the garden! Down one side of the house which has no sun and a little breeze, still terribly hot thought. The fan in the house is not making any difference. Poor Flicka is so hot.

It's freezing here at the moment!

Air-con is a necessity in summer. And to add insult to injury we are moving to far North Queensland soon where it is unbearably hot and often very wet for 3 months of the year but absolutely gorgeous the rest of the time. "Winter" is 26-28 every day. I hate the cold and glad this is our last ever winter

I hope it cools down over there soon

Definitely aircon. Who cares if it's 40 degrees for a full week when inside is a beautiful 22 degrees.
Also, I find our summer is long and hot so you tend to get used to the weather more. When every day is 30-35, the jump to 40 isn't as unbearable.

We've had a week of lovely winter weather. Cool and 10(ish) overnight and a mild 21/22 and sunny each day. I can cope with winter when it's like this.
We've got 5 days of rain coming up so I'm preparing to be grumpy 😭😆

Our two have been very uncomfortable these past couple of days. They just lie about all day. I was out all day yesterday and left them with the whole house (our bedroom being the coolest, I kept the curtains closed). The back door was open so they could go outside, but they didn't. In 6 hours they didn't go out once (we have cameras in the garden - poo cam). Coco, in particular, is really feeling it. Only one more day, should be a bit cooler by tomorrow then more normal at the weekend.

Yes, we find aircon cheaper than heaters plus obviously it cools in summer.

Sydney isn't as consistently hot as other places especially if you live in the eastern half of the city but the humidity is miserable in summer. It's currently about 12 degrees here though. And not much warmer inside my house- thanks old leaky houses! Chewie likes to sunbathe even in 30+ weather though. Weirdo.

It's as hot today. Coco is disappointed.
We went the theatre last night. I'd been really looking forward to it, but then but then with the heat, I was dreading it. It's a beautiful, Victorian, Frank Matcham theatre and I imagined it was going to be unbearably hot. I was pleasantly surprised, it was deliciously cool inside. and there's always ice creams during the interval :nod: .

Yes, our house is double brick and has leaky old floorboards (no insulation in the subfloor) and 100+ year old windows, some of which have visible gaps between the glass and the frame. 😧 This will all be tackled in the renovation, but for the moment it's like living in a poorly ventilated (and somehow also leaky) tent.

Joy's Librella injection was booked at the vets for 10.30 today. Yesterday, it being hot, I rang to change the appointment so that we wouldn't be walking there and back in the heat, and was given the earliest available, which was 8.30.
Today of course it is cool and cloudy, not even looking like it might brighten up later, so we appear to have jinxed the weather. Then I realised that it's St. Swithin's Day, so if ancient folklore is to be believed it'll now be like this for the rest of the summer. So if any of you in the UK want someone to blame for a disappointing summer, then that's me and Joy.
( Joy would like to add that she bears no responsibility whatsoever for the state of the weather, as it wasn't her who changed the appointment and anyway she is a Veryvery Goodgirl.)

The last couple of days it’s been almost chilly and overcast first thing……..and then the sun comes bursting through and it’s intense. I understand why you’d change the appointment time as already it’s too hot to be walking with a dog anywhere. The garden looks sad - lawn all burnt off like last year, plants showing signs of heat damage and lack of water. We now have a hosepipe ban so the hanging baskets are dying - they are a bit too high to hand water. There is no forecast of rain at the moment

Still no rain forecast here for the next week or so. The hose pipe ban is in force, so my son used watering cans to refill my empty water butts at the weekend. They’re nearly empty again - and I’ve only watered the pots and some wilting shrubs twice. I haven’t bought any new plants because I can’t rely on being able to keep them watered. The garden centres must be suffering, as there must be many others struggling to keep their gardens watered too. :(
