Someone needs to invent a way of sending household ‘clean’ waste water into outside tanks where possible. Unfortunately I can’t bail out bath/shower water and reuse it because I can’t carry jugs or cans of water downstairs. If only the bath/shower waste pipe could go out through the wall into a storage tank…

When there was a hosepipe ban back in the '70s (1976?) my Dad, ever practical, constructed a thing whereby our used bath water was diverted by a system involving ropes, pulleys, moveable pipes and a bit of shouting, to the outside water butts, where it was used for watering the garden. It was somewhat 'Heath Robinson' in design and a little bit embarassing to the two teenagers of the household( myself and brother) but it worked and he was rightly proud of it. With all the technology now available you'd think someone could come up with something similar, or perhaps a little more sophisticated.

We (not us, other people in Aus) have grey water systems that take the grey water and use it for irrigation.

You can also get a grey water system that treats the water so it can be reused in the house for washing machines and fluching toilets.

There are systems available for grey water.

Well, I never thought I'd find myself saying this, living where I do, but when I woke up thismorning to the sound of rain I cheered! The garden has needed so much watering, being nearly all containers, it's taken me over an hour every evening and I've been dreading another hosepipe ban. Thisevening I've still had to give the plants under the tree a little sprinkling, but that only took ten to fifteen minutes. Everything looks much happier now, and the air smells beautifully fresh. The river has filled up a bit too, which Joy is very happy about, and it's been cooler for her morning walk.

I feel you are lucky to be having some rain and I never thought I would be saying that! We had a tiny bit yesterday morning but everything needed watering still. It's so difficult to keep plants alive at the moment.

I have noticed that there a lot of beautifully ripe early Blackberries, which is presumably due to the warm weather, and they don't appear to have suffered from lack of water. I'm planning to pick some on our walk today.

Lucky you - the ones here look pathetic, definitely suffered with lack of water - won’t be pickable

It's so difficult to keep plants alive at the moment.

Here are my beautiful blackberries! These are the ones I managed to pick before Joy snaffled them first, straight off the bush, cleverly avoiding getting her nose prickled!

Super Blackberries. Mine here, are still very green, though I did find a bush with some delicious ripe ones which are now in my tummy. I found some in the freezer from last year!

We have strange and unusual rain here thisevening. For once it's falling vertically onto the garden, rather than blowing across horizontally and lashing against the windows. It's rather pleasant and soothing!

We have just had both types of rain - started off as ‘normal’ rain , then some fierce horizontal rain - running and foaming down the road outside. It stopped. I went out to cut the lavender and it started raining gently but enough to make me come in. Sadly it’s stopped and the sun is out……but we need much much more ‘normal’ rain

We had a bit so it did cool down for a bit and we've had a few short showers today but nothing of real wet

We had some lashing rain this afternoon, but not much (I did have to put a fleece jacket on though!), and a couple of bouts of heavy rain yesterday, again - not much. Just enough to bolster the weeds !

Yesterday late afternoon/early evening, the wind got up. I took Red for a quick toilet walk to the fields (that are burnt following that fire recently). We had to turn back as the wind was driving the soil/black charred bits of corn across the flat landscape - it was like a scene out of a Western movie
