Could you not put a bandage over his paw so he can’t scratch the stitches? When Snowie had stitches on his eyelid, the vet made a “boxing glove” over his paw to prevent him pulling the stitches out. No cone was worn.

I’ve booked him in for the 10th recovery day to have his sutures removed, so 6 more nights to go, but who’s counting. I just hope they will be ready to be removed and not taken out prematurely. But I’m sure they will know if it will be too soon!
Oh ya, our cones were held together by duct tape. Simba discovered he could rip the tape off. It was fun.I remember once when Lilly had to wear a cone, I was CONVINCED she was deliberately bashing into everything, especially lamp posts on walks, in an attempt to deliberately destroy it.
By the end it was heavily patched up with tape
