We hit a road block this morning on our way to the beach

I was out voted. The girls wanted to go to the beach, so we went there instead!

We went to Crinan for lunch. At the west end of the Canal is a sea lock. We were just in time to see a boat move through the lock, but we missed the most interesting bit of the process.
It's such a pretty place, feels calm and relaxing.

As we headed back to base for a late afternoon snooze, we stopped at Dunadd Fort to stand in the footsteps of Kings (or so legend has it).

It is a stone basin, and together with the footprints are thought to be part of Dal Riata's coronation ceremony.
Dal Riata was the name given to this part of Scotland, I know it included Northern Irish areas as well as a chunk of the West Coast of Scotland but how far I'm not sure. There seems to have been a battle ongoing between the Picts and the Celts to have supremacy over the area. The period covered from 5th century until 1400s so quite a long running war of attrition I am guessing.
Legend had it that a coronation up Dunadd (which used to be a stone fortress) involved you placing your foot in the depression which either gave you power over all you could see or named you protector of it all.
I suspect @Lisa May know more about a lot of this than I do

We took the scenic detour home through Glencoe which is absolutely breathtaking. More photos to follow after I’ve had a nap - driving is exhausting!
