What a morning!

Just catching up on this - poor Shadow. It must have been horrendous with so much glass. Recently I accidentally knocked a glass mug and it fell out of the cupboard and smashed, right where the dogs were standing. It was bad enough keeping them away from that while I cleared up all the shards of glass.

I hope Shadow’s paw heals quickly and you feel better after your walk. :thelambiesarecoming:

Got to work this morning and there was broken glass all in my doorway. Went into panic mode, holding Maisy and trying to pick it up at the same time. Thought of you at the time and it must have been a hundred times worse for you.

That paw looks sore, poor boy, hope it heals nice and quickly now it's been stapled.

How is he today Fiona?
Ah, thanks for asking, he's fine. He's not fussing at his bandages at all, good boy. I imagine that might change once the healing gets underway and they start itching, but for now he's just a bit confused as to why he wasn't allowed off lead this morning. I'll take him out on the long line on walks so he has a little bit more freedom to sniff without being under my feet.

Aww bless him. Oh yes the itchy part is the hard part. Would a little manuka honey on the wound speed healing up a little? Give him big kisses and hugs from us. xxx
At the moment, it's well bound up with a tonne of AB cream on it. We are under strict instructions not to play with it and leave it until we are back at the vet for replacing the dressing on Monday :)

He will take your hugs and kisses... and a few tummy rubs, as well, if it's not too much bother!

Putting his Pawz boot on last night to take him out for a wee and I accidentally pressed down on his foot where the staples are. Oh, the scream! Poor boy :(
I was so worried about hurting Joy's sore paw which I first started using the Pawz boots, but I did find I got better at it with practice and she can't have minded it too much as eventually as soon as I got one out she would lie on her back for me to put it on for her, which made it a lot easier. I hope your boy's OK and not getting too bored. Joy and I had lots of good sniffy walks when she was on restricted exercise, often taking at least twice as long as they normally would, but of course this is easier with just one dog. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Shadow.

Glad to hear the window is a window again instead of a hole. Hopefully Shadow will mend quickly even though paws are a total pain (in more ways than one) to get completely healed.

I'm still in awe of your 'take in stride' attitude. I'd have been drooling on myself in the corner! :tmi:

We were back at the vet this evening to have a check-up and replace the dressing. His right foot is now dressing-free, but his left (the stapled one) is still going to be a week or so before the staples can come out. It's healing well, though, with no sign of infection.
Shadow spent the entire consultation on his back, having tummy rubs. Truly ridiculous dog :D
We saw the vet I don't like (funny how we are chat, chat, chat with Jordi, but with this guy we barely speak a word) but we could hear Jordi's voice. As we went to the desk to book our next appointment, a man came out of the adjoining consultation room in tears, and we saw Jordi carefully wrapping up what was obviously the body of the man's beloved cat or small dog. Gut-wrenchingly sad; I felt so sorry for him, but there's nothing that can be said by a stranger.

In happier news, there was a man in the waiting room with a lovely big yellow boy Lab who was typically enthusiastic about everything. While we were at the desk, Shadow had the odd look, but was happily slurping away at his packet of "goo". For some reason, the other dog wasn't on a lead and he suddenly bounded towards us. J body-blocked him, and Shadow looked a bit taken aback, but that was it; he went back to his goo and that was it. We explained that Shadow isn't good with other dogs, but you could tell that neither the receptionist nor the man really believed us! It's quite funny how, in these places where he feels a bit out of his depth, he actually manages far better to ignore other dogs.

Very pleased Shadow is doing so well. I'm glad you said about the dog encounter at the vets. I always worry about it with Charlie yet in a full waiting room he copes so well with 10 plus dogs on occasions, with treats of course. It always seems odd to me. Good boy Shadow. xx

Good boy Shadow, I can't take Rourke into the waiting room, keep him in the car until it is my turn. He will ignore a dog if we meet one at the desk and he is very good when in the vet's consulting room, but waiting room is a problem.

Shadow's last vet trip this evening, unless anything happens.
Last night, he went through the bottom of his Pawz boot and so the bandage was absolutely saturated by the snow by the time we got home from our walk, so I cut it off and just lightly wrapped his paw with vet wrap. Well, since this morning, he's been walking on three legs! I thought that maybe the thicker bandage the vet had used meant his paw was less mobile, and that therefore having a bit more movement meant that the staples were digging in a bit.
The vet removed the staples and, since there was a tiny bit of blood, re-wrapped with more vet wrap, but is very happy with the wound. Shadow is still on three legs, though. The vet didn't seem concerned, but obviously we can go back if we need to.

Taking the dogs out for evening wees was a bit ridiculous with two on three legs. What a sight we must have been! Fiona's home for the deranged and infirm.

Joy was walking on three legs on and off during the time waiting for her paw to heal, but only when we were out, never indoors, so I don't think she was in pain, I think it was more to do with her paw feeling strange with the Pawz and boot on. Once it was all taken off she was back to normal. I hope Shadow's recovery remains straightforward. Couldn't help but chuckle at the image of you walking four dogs, two of them on three legs though!:giggl:
