What made you smile today?

We had a 13 week scan today and everything is going well. We told Nathan about the baby and two things happened:

1. He looked down the front of my top and said "is the baby in your boobies?" 🤣🤣
2. He asked if we were getting another dog. Apparently "if he was getting a baby brother, it was only fair that Ella should get a baby sister too" 😳😳

I'm so happy that everything is going well Emily. How cute is Nathan?

I’m off to German class.

I really enjoy it.

It’s the combination of its purpose (I love being able to understand folk in Germany), an excellent teacher who makes it enjoyable - and good colleagues who are my age and professional ability.

And another thing. I’ve been a good, sympathetic teacher followed by deputy headteacher all my life. This was a reaction at all my awful teachers and my determination that people like me wouldn’t suffer as I did. (ADHD and dyslexia)

I‘ve just realised that this is the first time ever that I’ve been on the receiving end of good teaching - and it feels good!

That’s my reason for a big smile - in fact it’s a grin. :listening:

(Yes - I did spell ‘receiving’ as ’recieving’. God bless spell check!)

Priceless!! Glad things went well at your scan. How exciting! 🥰

My step daughter Melanie starts a new job next week, which means she will no longer be able to pick her daughter Nia up from school. Nia is ten now and it's still light when she finishes school, so it was decided that she could get the bus along the road from Sowerby Bridge to Copley ( only a few stops) Her Aunty Donna works in Sowerby Bridge, so last week she did practice runs of bus catching with her and this week Melanie has been between jobs so she has done the practice runs with her. She wanted Nia to start doing it by herself before she started her new job incase there were any teething problems, so today was the first day of Nia, armed with her first ever mobile phone getting the bus home by herself and we've all had fingers crossed all day hoping she manages OK. Melanie came to visit me this afternoon as I live quite near the school and we waited for news. First home was big brother Cassidy, 13 years old. He and Nia are going through a phase of arguing a lot at the moment. What was the first thing he did though, when he got home? Rang his little sister, 'Nia, where are you? Are you on the bus, are you alright? Do you want me to meet you at the bus stop?' Then when she was home, 'Ring Mum now, Nia and tell her you're safe'. So Mel got the call 'Mum! I DID IT!'She and I cheered! They're growing up! I will be on standby though every school afternoon, as Nia's been told to ring me first if there are any problems. It's made me smile, Cassidy, who is so often annoyed by Nia, showing his lovely caring big brother side! Good lad!

Yes, they love each other to bits really, but they're chalk and cheese!
Haha, how often do people say "those were the days"? You know, THESE are the days, sometimes! My family has a story about my brother being sent off to his posh prep school (I think they planned for him to be an only child ;) ). First day, Dad put him on the train and waved him off... but it was the wrong train :tmi:
I bet a mobile phone and connection to parents would have been very welcome! As it was, he had to work it out for himself, and he's still around, so I guess it wasn't totally disastrous. But he never trusted Dad's train skills again :cwl:

Hattie and I visited 'K' from the Hospice. 'K' is very attached to Hattie and misses her so much since she retired from PAT work. We have always done 'home' visits to him but he hasn't seen Hattie since October when we visited before we moved. As we are back down south until Saturday we popped in and spent the afternoon with 'K' and his lovely wife. He was so very happy to see Hattie who lay at his feet and lavished him with love and kisses just as she always did at the Hospice. It made me smile to see my wonderful girl do what she does best and to see 'K' so very happy and content. Warmed my heart. xxxx
