What made you smile today?

Poor lad, I didn't realise he had an abscess I thought it was from the op? I hope he continues to improve, it must be horrid to be a dog and feel unwell and not understand why x
Seroma first then he developed an abscess took him to see vet as he had high temp convulsions and pain. She the vet, refused to give antibiotics and gave him anti sickness injection . I asked for anti biotics she refused. He was ill all Saturday but about 3.20am Sunday morning it burst. He went to the vet hospital. They were appalled at his treatment on Friday. They treated him and wanted to keep him in. I asked if I could bring him home and flush the wound myself, because I'd managed well with the abscess and cleaned and got all the pus out they agreed. I rang my vet on Monday to change his librella appt told the receptionist why and she got the senior vet to ring me. She asked me to take him in straight away and she was very angry about what happened everyone was. He got flushed again and we got a plan together to manage this difficult wound. The senior vet was upset she likes Rory she said that this should not have happened. She kept apologising and cuddling Rory. Hopefully he'll be ok now the pocket is huge though and he may have to have further surgery. Rory was a saint throughout and so brave. I really did think I might loose him as it was like the sepsis which killed Moo.

@SwampDonkey, the vets and dentists seem very reluctant to give antibiotics these days, there is a notice in my vets saying this. I do understand there can be over prescribing but there is a time when it is very necessary. Poor Rory and the stress you must have gone under worrying about him. Thank goodness the vet hospital realised that he really needed antibiotics, you must have felt so frustrated and helpless when first vet refused your request, I am sorry you have had to go through all this.

I did I argued with her, I think she is in a bit of trouble over it. The head vet was furious and incredulous.

So sorry about poor Rory and the vet who obviously made a very serious judgement error. I do hope he is on the road to recovery now. No wonder that he is so tired. I hope you all get a decent night's rest. :thelambiesarecoming:
I've not t been to bed since Thursday. I've had naps but hes taken some watching. If the large abscess does not seal and heal he will need further surgery. It's been horrible

Yes, this exactly. That's were a clinical assessment and professional judgment comes in, that's what we're paying them for isn't it?

Our vet recently posted on FB about a change in guidance for veterinary prescribing, I will see if I can find it and post on here somewhere.

A busy-ish day today, nothing special, just making sure we're ready incase the threatened snow actually arrives, but I wanted to stock up on a few essentials and get a good supply of wintery type food in, then cleaned out the stove and re-laid it, filled the bird feeders, all the while with Joy trotting everywhere after me, as she has done since she was a puppy. I was finishing washing the floor and said to her, 'Nearly finished now, then we can sit down'. Whereupon she promptly did, fixing me with a hard stare and licking her lips in anticipation of some sort of reward!:giggl: Funny girl! She must be listening to everything I say and just waiting for something that makes sense to her!
