What made you smile today?

Meg met a man today. We usually nip into the churchyard for a 5 minute sit down. Today there was a man building a wall along the driveway. He was rendering it. I called a hello which was reciprocated. Then I sat. The man soon had to come to his van, quite near us for some more cement. Meg barked/snarled. I said my usual "sorry, she's just frightened..blah blah" and calmed her into a sit. She watched the man. He started towards us, slowly, and asked if he could say hello. I said "no, better not, she might bite, but she seems happy with you at this distance" - He was very understanding, we chatted about his dogs, my dogs and all the while Meg sat, listening and watching, but quiet. She had a bit of a bark at his mate as we left, but was easily calmed. Proud of my little, brave, BWD.**

Had a couple of old friends and their dogs over for a meal thisevening. He is registered blind now, and has also lost much of his hearing, so their dogs are Lecky, his now retired Guide Dog, and Ollie, his current working guide dog, both of whom Joy adores. I have known them both since before he needed a Guide Dog, and tonight they were saying how they always thought I was very nice, although just a bit of a Mad Dog Woman about my Labradors, but now they admit to having 'joined the ranks', as they put it! What a good evening was had by all, dogs included, and a somewhat later night than is usual for a Wednesday, but we're all retired now and there really are some advantages to ageing! An evening to be repeated, we all agreed, happy dogs, happy people, enough to make anyone smile!😊
