What made you smile today?

What a lot of smiles we're having lately!
My smile for today is that just after Joy and I arrived home from our morning walk a neighbour from a few houses down knocked on my door and brought me these dahlias!20250821_134005.jpgShe just said she thought I might like them! I think perhaps she's spotted me glancing somewhat enviously at the ones in her kitchen window every time I walk past, although she said not. Anyway I was about to make some coffee, so I asked if she'd like some, and some flapjack, and we sat in my garden to have this. I asked her if she thought I could grow dahlias, given that it's nearly all patio with pots, and she said if I just put a bit more compost in my raised beds they'd do well there.
She then said she always had too many tubers and will bring me some next Spring if I'd like.
I feel lucky to have such lovely neighbours and am really looking forward to having a try at dahlias next year!

How really lovely @Candy - what a beautiful selection and a nice neighbour. I particularly like dahlias - when we were part of the local Horticultural Society there would be some amazing exhibits at the annual show. One of my friends grew them on her allotment next to ours (neither of us have them anymore) - they looked pretty there but she always had some cut in vases in her cottage

How lovely. Nice neighbours make such a difference 🥰

I'm still smiling after my visit to Specsavers ! Haha !
Long story short I needed some new prescription glasses after five years on no change in my eysesight. It's fair to say that in the 10 years of going to my local branch I've always had unfailingly helpful and curteous treatment, and this time was no exception.
The young dispenser who I saw after the optician was so good - he had just the right way of interacting and pitched his explanations and guidance at just the correct level and I felt able to make a well informed choice, which is just as well as the financial outlay was substantial.
Well done Alfie!
