Rather a sweet thing happened today, which made me smile. When Joy was a puppy Trevor and I would eat lunch together then have coffee. He would take his to the sitting room to watch the News and catch up on Current Affairs programs. I preferred to sit in the dining room in what used to be my Mum's chair, look out at the bird table, read and usually snooze for 10-15 minutes. Puppy Joy would come with me. The chair was quite low so she would climb onto my lap and sleep. Because she was such a crocopup I used to keep a throw over the arm of the chair, then when she climbed up I'd put it on my lap so I could protect my poor hands from the puppy gnashers. That chair was the only place where she has ever even tried to sit on my lap, apart from when I sit on the floor which has always been the 'Come and snuggle' sign for my dogs.
Anyway, after lunch today I took my coffee to the sitting room, which is what I do now, and started to read, Joy on her downstairs bed beside me. It's been a chilly day and my legs were a bit cold, so rather than turn the heating up, I got the throw from the dining room chair and put it over my knees. Slight pause, me reading..... then a little wet black snuffly nose,....front paws up....back paws up....whole little black dog up on my lap for a snuggle and a snooze together! I had thought it was that particular chair that she associated with coming up onto my lap for an afternoon snooze, but evidently it's the throw. So interesting to see how her clever mind works, my own GoodGirl. So warm and comforting too! Might be making a habit of this now!
