What made you smile today?

I think Maxx and Bear have some sort of secret communication. After moving on from the nicking of stuff stage, in the last two days he is back to it with thongs (flip flops) high on the agenda. I had to smile this morning as I was having a cheeky mid-week lie-in and he trotted in with my thong in his mouth and stood just far enough back so I actually had to get out of bed to retrieve it before he ended its life. Smart dog! He was telling me that we were late for his walk.

I don’t think I will ever read “thong” as “flip flop” in your sentences :giggl:

Natalie, did you get anywhere with the technique that worked for Cassie?
I've tried it a couple not times but not enough that I think it works for us, the problem is that when Bear launches himself on me I'm not always standing up😁. There are some triggers for it:
- sneezing, If one of us sneezes he will jump all over our heads, when we try and fend him off he goes for our arms. Swapping for a toy doesn't work, he's not interested in the toy at all when there's are arms available

- mornings, just after OH has left for work around 7.30, and I am finishing off my cup of tea in bed. Bear will invariably launch himself on me grabbing my wrists and arms. As I am almost horizontal at that point I just tend to get under the covers and play dead, covering up my arms and face, cos the next attack will be my glasses.
- delivery driver knocking the door- he will go loopy, running up and down the hallway , leaping up on me ( I just brace against a wall) and then, again mouthing at me. He's just really, really excited at this point and I tend to just scatter feed on the floor to calm him.down.

I think I could start to train the sneezing out, by starting with really small pretend sneezes and building up, rewarding calm etc.

But strangers at the door, or even god forbid, coming in the house, are pretty difficult at the moment.

By arms have now got multiple yellow bruises up and down them now 😟

I think @snowbunny mentioned that last year when you first saw Bear. Yes, Forest is Toffee’s Dad, supposedly the calmer of the Afinmore boys, obviously Bear didn’t get those genes :giggl: . Luckily Toffee did  .
Yes, I remember a conversation vaguely but somehow didn't make the link. Funny, the breeder didn't really describe Forest as very calm last night - she owns / owned Bear's mum and nan (who would have mated with him) and so goodness know what the other lad- Wilson?- was like!

Wilson is AMAZING! I love him!! But, yeah, when we visited, he was a complete jack-in-a-box. How Fiona got him to stand still long enough in the show ring to get him titled, I have no idea :D

I think @snowbunny has a good idea  .
Squidge is very much a combination of her two parents. Her mum was known as "Naughty Nula" for a good while :giggl:
It would probably be "too much" if she were my first Lab, but she is just perfect in every way ... for me :D

Maybe you could do it just as a fun game to start with, when he's he's not super excited? Perhaps he would learn to enjoy that ?

I well remember the bruised arms!! Toys never deflected Cassie either. It was always me!

The one time she will hold my arm these days is if I'm in my dressing gown, I'm sure it triggers the early puppy days here. She no longer bites me though.

Yes, that's true, I hadn't thought of it as preventative rather than reactionary.

Also, someone suggested a stronger 'drop' cue that applies to absolutely everything, not just toys or something they shouldn't have. So drop comes to mean - 'release your jaws from whatever they are wrapped around right now' . So that's something that is easy to work on, I'll just have to have a constant supply of treats as a reward - or a lure in case he won't let go immediately.

It made me laugh this morning! The eyes! The mouth!! By the way, have you seen the Judge? He's rather "Robert Downey Junior"!
THAT'S the person behind the cat face? He looks like young RDJ had a baby with Colonel Sanders and then that baby grew up and went on holiday in Mexico and got a tan. I was imagining some genteel older peepaw type!
