The scent in my garden is fabulous on these very hot days - it releases the perfume from my only rose, a pink rambler (variety unknown), which then mixes with sweet peas and my fancy buddleia which is still flowering and a magnet for butterflies.

Ella has loved having so many people coming to the house just to see her!
To be honest, it's stress free with her now as she's a silly but somewhat sensible girl these days and just loves the fuss. The thought of this many tradies on site with a younger Ella would have kept me awake at night
The site manager did tell us of a dog (a Lab - of course
) that managed to get into the backyard just before the pool went in. At this point the hole has been measured and smoothed out to perfection. Apparently the lab started doing zoomies around the yard, all of the trades were trying to keep it from the pool hole and the poor owner was a mixture of horror, embarrassment and failure. I could just imagine 🫣
I like how you can instantly spot a dog person. Some tradies walk around and Ella is all but invisible. The others actively seek her out for lots of love and cuddles. Of course she's more than happy to oblige

Yep, Perth is one big sand dune. Here you can see some of the sand that came out of the hole.
Usually you just have a thin layer of topsoil and everything grows. We had clay back in Melbourne so we still had a layer of topsoil there.

It looks like your pool is going to be lovely Emily, are the boys excited about it? Joy is similar to Ella in liking to greet any visitors. She was particularly fond of the man who laid the stair carpet, presumably because he spent most of the time on his hands and knees which (as all Labradors know) means only one thing.....time for ear and tummy rubs and general fuss and cuddles. Luckily he was a dog lover and particularly fond of Labradors so was happy to oblige. It did take him rather a long time to fit the carpet though and I don't know if 'Time spent cuddling Dog' was included in the overall price.
