Wowsa - Carbon's new Leish-friendly vet had some great news for us

Oh this is fantastic!! As you say, either way it doesn't "really" matter, but if there's a small hope that he may be completely Leish free, that would be outstanding!! Will you be back with her in a month? Does that affect your travel plans at all? What a lucky boy young Carboncito is to have you in his corner :)
For the timing of the next tests, she said it needed to be at least a month, so waiting until I'm back in December is fine. She will know more after the eye swab results, too, so if we need to do something on the road, we can. I'll be visiting a friend near Nice who has two rescue dogs and knows all the good vets so we could manage.

It WILL probably affect how long he is with me, though, and be a disappointment to his potential adopters. First I said he'd be available in June, then it was September, then it was November...well, you get the idea. I need to talk to my adoption guru Kate and also get the swab results back but if this vet thinks she can get him in the clear, I'd be very much in favor of bringing him back to Germany with me in December.

But one step at a time. I think today I'm just giddy over finding such a great vet who seemed so on top of Leish. That's even hard to find in Spain! And I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much that he will turn out to be Leish-free, but it's really hard not to have a serious bounce in my step and hope in my heart.

Yeah, that sounded cheesy. I'm in a giddy, cheesy mood! :xmasspirit:

Love that her dogs were hanging out there - awesome!
It was a bit crazy but the vet and vet techs really kept it all rather orderly. Carbon thought it was fab. I took him to the vet at the shelter a couple times and it was just like that...a bit of a controlled madhouse. Although I have to admit, the German version looked much more sanitary.

Have tears in my eyes reading this...doesn't matter the outcome, what a difference though a decent, kind vet can make, I bet you're on cloud 9 right now, especially after the upset with the previous vet. Carbon must be a happy lad right now, actually enjoying a visit to the vet. Would be good if he was Leish free though, but that is just the icing on the cake!
Thanks, Kate -definitely a good day for both of us.

Forgot to mention that she also rebandaged his foot. It's looking good and I can do my own dressing changes from here on out. He seemed a bit lethargic yesterday, but he's fine today. Yesterday may have just been too much for him with all the running around to get ready that I've been doing. Maybe dogs DON'T want to be dragged everywhere all the time? ;)

I really feel positive and happy for you Emily , and can really understand how wonderful it is to find someone who understands and is knowledgeable , rather than us fumbling along in the dark with little support . A certain lady member on here who was also on the other site , who is a Vet , understood all about the cancer that Sam had, which is a rare one . Although I was worried beyond belief , the relief at finding a professional who studied this cancer seemed to take a weight from my shoulders . I wish you and your handsome lad all the luck in the world , he was meant to be with you xxxxx
