Doggy brags

They're such sweet little humans that it's impossible not to want to engage with them! As I said, I see them every day, so GGJ and I will attempt to continue our contact with them as long as they want it and Joy is happy. Speaking of ingrained cultural fears and dog lovers, I have been interested to see that there is an Asian man called Chirag someone (can't remember his last name) who seems to be doing some very positive dog training.

Chirag Patel is great! It's also wonderful when nervous kids have a good experience with a dog.

My South Asian family is very odd- anywhere from dog lovers (think a great aunt with a ridgeback best friend and an uncle and aunt with 3 pugs snoring in their bed) to afraid of dogs. At least some of that fear is due to not growing up with dogs and the scary guard/police dogs in South Africa. We are trying to do our bit. My cousin's daughter wants to love Chewie, but despite much coaching from her parents still squeals at him and waves her hands around. Hopefully with practice she gets it! That is still better than the nephew on the other side of the family who HAS dogs and is mean to Chewie...(that kid...)

On the plus side my mum (cautious around dogs) is now a fan. Hooray!

This afternoon Joy and I walked along the street to get to the canal as usual. When we reached the place where the children plucked up the courage to stroke her yesterday she stopped, looked around her expectantly then looked up at me, for all the world as if she was saying 'Where are they?'
All our dogs are wonderful I know, but honestly there couldn't be one any sweeter than this!

Yesterday I went with Finn to a school to collect my grandson who is at school since a couple of weeks. I had promised my grandson to take Finn with me. It was Finn’s first time ever being surrounded by so many children! He did very well! Was calm, even though there was a chocolate lab waiting at school too! The chocolate lab was there once more, but he started barking and lunging towards Finn. Finn reacted with a little bark, no lunging and was calm. The mum of the chocolate lab came over to me. He happened to be the same age of Finn. She admired my harness with front and back attachment and she took photos of it.

When my grandson was outside he walked Finn who calmly walked beside Victor, my grandson. I was so proud!! And victor was proud too, he showed all his friends his favorite dog and told them all about what a sweet dog it was and a great friend!

Well she did it! Last night Cassie managed to pass the Grade 2 graded gundog Junior Retriever assessment:) :happyfeet:. I am so pleased, in the scheme of gundog stuff it's very basic, but it feels good to have obtained a certain standard I must say.
Her heelwork wasn't up to her usual standard, it was a warm evening and she was second last to go and was feeling a bit "meh" but she was enthusiastic about her retrieves which was good to see!
So when we got home she had the biggest tea ever, never mind the diet, and today we will have a long walk, with no training!!
