The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Not sure if Carbon would be so thrilled with me putting this in HIS thread, but it looks like I've just been offered my off/on mini job back. Only 10 hours a week but that's fine by me as I've decided I'm semi-retired anyway. I'll believe it when I see the money - that's the way it is for contract work - but it was a nice surprise for a summer Tuesday afternoon. :)

Whoop whoop! :celebrate:That’s jolly good news @Emily_Babbelhund , glad they recognise your value; and will help to keep Carbón in white fish so it does sort of belong here.

Mis amigos, I have lost count of the number of days of our captivity. ML, Bunny, Monkey, Llama and Owen (who still has no arms) have thrown our lot in together to plan our escape. ML says we must be patient, but it is muy dificil. I fear that ML has lost her mind as she makes me stand on a pot and go in circles multiple times a day. I do not mind because it makes her happy and when she is happy she gives me deeelicious sausages. However a veces I worry that she may be sinking into madness. Also I worry that if I am standing on the pot, she cannot cook my deeeelicious fish in the pot. This would be muy triste, very sad indeed.

ML is also asking me backup onto my mat a lot. This I understand, as I may need such skilful manoeuvres for our eventual escape. She says that I do not realise that I have a back end. This is possibly true. De verdad, I am nearly sure that back in Spain I did NOT have a back end. Maybe Spanish Gentleman dogs only grow a back end once they leave Spain? ML's back end seems to have grown since we left Spain, maybe it is the same for me?

En todo caso, anyway, here is me doing a wonderful job backing up. ML says to ignore her poor clicking because she couldn't see my feet on the mat. Excuses, excuses. In fact I do not care when she makes the click noise as long as I get sausages. Mainly I just do what I want anyway, but...shhhhh...do not tell ML that!

I'm enjoying some of @HAH 's delicious cider (the "DevonRed") and a little punchily starting my plane ticket search for September. I've decided to throw caution to the wind and assume Carbon is flying with me and that we'll be leaving out of Munich. I was thinking even if Carbon did come with me, we might leave from London be able to see some friends over that way before flying, but DEFRA rules for flying back in have my head in a muddle, so I'm thinking Munich may be easier.

Besides, Nadine will be beside herself with joy at the prospect of me leaving my car for her in Regensburg for a month. Everyone wish some strong Lambie power for my poor little TARDIS!

I'm so exited about flying with Carbon, I can't even tell you. Flying without Brogan since he passed has been an exercise in sadness. Way, way to much foot space for my liking. I'm a little worried about some of Carbon's training, but we still have a month to iron out the kinks. That includes some of his documentation, but I'm going to say this is going to happen and then make it so (nod to Jean-Luc Picard).

One of the more bizarre points of booking a plane ticket with a dog is that you are NOT looking for the shortest flight. There are lovely flights direct from Munich to San Francisco (11,5 hours) but this is not your destiny when your co-pilot is canine. No, you need to look for a flight with a stop about in the middle and with a layover that allows for a wee break. That means at LEAST 2,5 hours as you need to go out of the terminal, find the dog elimination area (usually outside baggage claim) and then re-enter the terminal going all the way through security again.

With Brogan, my favourite flight was Munich to Chicago, 2:50 layover and then on to SFO. I was happy to see this is still running and available on our dates. Looks like Carbon may be walking in some big footsteps and by that I don't mean the ones left by my Very Big Shoe.

I've been working in German taxes today (ick, ick, ick) but happened to run across this rare video of Brogan. It was part of his remote SD recertification that we had to do every year. I asked my dad to video us together in an empty spot in Ronda. He's moving SLOW because it's so hot. Now that he's on the other side, I'd like to think he's cheering Carbon on.

And yeah, shout out to my pre-chemo hair!

Lovely Brogan! Your flying planning reminds me of my rail travel planning with my GGJ, not the shortest route but the most dog friendly, it just has to be. Hope you manage to work it out, I'm sure if anyone can it's you. Wish I could take little Joy flying with me!

Oh Brogan, what a fine boy! Although man, you can feel the heat coming off the recording - it has a sultry feel to it. And your hair was beautiful, but I hope you don’t mind if I say I prefer it now? It seems to suit you - maybe wavy is a better fit :)
Carbón is just going to be the most fantastic flying company. Hip hip hooray, up and away!

Thank you...I'm still trying to embrace the grey and wavy thing!

Hope you manage to work it out, I'm sure if anyone can it's you.
It does make it easier that I've flown with Brogan before many times, so Carbon is really the unknown factor. As you say, you plan the dog-friendly route, which is rarely the shortest. Also have a little trepidation about the fact that I'll also likely still be in the boot for my foot, but who knows. I've also decided NOT to train Carbon on escalators and that could be an issue depending on the set up to and from the plane. He'd do fine on them with training but I just can't do that now with my foot. Better safe than sorry. :)

I had that boot five years ago with my third broken ankle. I found it gave me loads of support and to start with I was a bit anxious when I left it behind. It didn't take long for my confidence to return though. I think you'll be fine, maybe a bit worried, but ultimately fine, just like I always am.
