The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

He has very low aspirations. 6 breakfasts and 6 dinners? Pfft! Why not like on a cruise ship where there’s a buffet going at any time of the night or day! ;)

Re the walking at heel, when my husband and I walk together and my husband is holding the leash, Snowie wants to walk next to me at heel! If it’s just me, he’s yanking me down the road to get to the next tree. I guess Carbon didn’t want to miss out on walking with the two of you.

Day two of my enforced captivity. Three walks, two dinners. Ojala! How will I survive? I am encouraging my fellow captives to help me dig a tunnel. Bunny, Monkey and our new compatriot Llama have agreed to the plan. Owen must sadly abstain as he has no arms. Es muy triste!

For my part, I have started a strike. Not a food strike - that would be una locura, a madness. No, no, mis amigos, I have started a poo strike. I stayed strong this whole day. If my demands for more dinners and more walks are not met, I will not poo tomorrow either and then it is off to build the Labrador commune for sure.

That is where my clever plan for the tunnel comes in, ves, you see.

The only problem is that I am beginning to suspect that ML is just as captive as me. Maybe she really cannot walk without that really big shoe. In this case, I do not want to abandon her. I am a very loyal Spanish Gentleman Dog. And she makes very nice sausage and makes sure I have very soft pillows after all.

Vale, I will simply tell my compatriots to work on a tunnel that will allow us ALL to escape. I may even let ML join our commune if she agrees to do the shopping.

Vamos a ver, let's see!

Day Three of my captivity. Mis amigos, I despair of my compatriots, who have sadly let down the cause. Instead of digging our tunnel to freedom, Bunny insisted on sleeping in bed with me, Monkey and Llama looked like they'd thrown a fiesta in the living room and Owen...que lastima, he STILL has no arms.

Igualmente, I disappointed myself by breaking my poo strike the morning. Si, si, I am weak. ML whispering in my ear, "Carbon, Go Two...Carbon, Go Two..." it was just too much. De verdad, in truth I did not want to miss my sausage poo. No, no, that is NOT a poo made of sausage - did you really allow your mind to go there? - but rather the sausage I get from ML for making a poo. It is too deeeleeecious and I could not resist.

Entonces the break out plans are on hold. We have no escape route, I have no fortitude and ML really needs me. Today during our sausage training - that's training where I get to eat sausage, not where we train sausages. Really, you all have very strange ideas about sausages.

Donde estaba? Where was I? Oh si, during our sausage training, ML got really angry at her big shoe and her big stick and stopped our training to cry. Then she went to bed to be quiet and stare at her computer when it was still daylight outside. I know when she does this that she is sad and confused.

I may still be a student service dog but I know what to do: I go to bed with her and lay my head on her foot (the one without the big shoe). After she calms down, I thump my tail to cheer her up or lay against her back and keep her safe. I may be a Spanish Gentleman dog but de verdad, I am also a very good therapy dog.

After an hour or so of Carbon therapy, ML got up and I took her for a walk. I walked very slowly and ML said I was a superstar. I even ignored one of my former enemies - I used to shout and shout at him last summer! - who passed right by me. Además, what's more...his human was carrying two fresh pizzas! Did I try to shout at my old enemy? No! Did I try to mug the man for his pizza? No! Am I the best dog in the world when I'm taking care of ML? Si, si, si!

Entonces I will continue this very important work that I am doing. I will nurse ML back to health and then we are all making a break for it. I have not given up my dream of a Labrador Commune, but it may have to include our humans as well. What would they do without us, no?

Oh oh oh Carbón  You are the most gentlemanly and loving of all Spanish Gentleman Dogs, and you do your ML the best of services. Keep loving her so well and you will be rewarded with the finest smells, sausages and sunshine (?) on your handsome Spanish back. Onwards and upwards, Signor!
