Harley’s health journey

Harley had a limping issue on Tuesday, so on Wednesday she had a shorter walk.
Today she had hydrotherapy and again absolutely loved it. She went straight in and sat so patiently for the chamber to fill with water. She walked well on the treadmill and the staff were really happy with her.
She was weighed before we started and she is now 29.9kg. When she first got diagnosed with arthritis she was 32.2kg, so I’m over the moon with her weight loss. The fish and veg diet are clearly helping 😀

Harley sounds like a dream. Snowie had treadmill yesterday. He races into the treatment room and into the chamber. And then barks deafeningly for treats. Yesterday he was so incredibly demanding, the barking rattled me and hurt my ears. I think we made a mistake offering treats at all. We’d should've made the treadmill and the water the reward. He’s happy in the chamber, but I guess they give treats as a matter of course because some dogs are afraid or don’t like it. Now, we can’t stop. Unless we don’t mind shattered eardrums!

Well done on the weight loss. Snowie has only managed a few hundred grams. Our fault of course. He should lose a kilo. Although he does seem to have gained a lot of muscle just looking at him.

Maxx has an ear-shattering bark too @M.F. and my husband has a terrible problem with one of his ears where it always feels like there is pressure in there. So the echoing bark sends hubby into pain orbit so we have to react to stop it. So of course, clever clogs very quickly learnt that Mum and Dad jump anytime he barks . Thankfully he isn't too bad - maybe once or twice a day if we aren't giving him enough attention. Sigh.

@Emily_Babbelhund suggested a fish diet for Rourke but I am not into using fresh food, too difficult to get raw fish. I wonder if you feed fresh or dried and if dried, which one? Rourke is back on the lead for two months and will put weight on again, he has been on half measures! Does it help the arthritis at all?

Look in any supermarket in the frozen section. Morrison's has the best deal that I've found. Then 10 minutes in the microwave from frozen, slightly less if partially thawed. A batch lasts me 2-3 days.

Not saying you need to do it - you have so many other things going on and there are really good kibbles out there - just that fish isn't hard to find.

I buy frozen white fish from Tesco. It takes 15 mins in the oven to cook. A bag is about £2 and lasts her 3 days. I just add carrots, broccoli and green beans. I also add tumeric & green lipped muscle which I buy on amazon for about £8-£10 per pot which each last over a month. I do think that having this change of diet has really helped with her arthritis and managing her weight.

That's what I do with Rory my freezers always got some in for Rory's tum. I just put it in if I'm cooking for myself.

Do you think fish and vegetables is sufficient? Dried food usually has vitamins and minerals in it. I will have a look at the green lipped mussels and turmeric. Good to read your personal experience and that you think it has helped, which is encouraging.

It’s been good for us. She has 25g kibble with her evening meal and is a lot more energetic and seems to be getting back to her cheeky antics. If she was lethargic at all I would look at changing.
