Doggy brags

Mama Red HOT Pepper
Three hour walk in Padstow (including through fields and the park to the beach) and NOT ONE BAD REACTION to other dogs. First time! He did nearly pull me over once trying to get a sniff of a dog on a trail, but the actual meeting was just friendly and happy. Mainly I just mismanaged my body position and it was a good learning experience for me as a few minutes later I had another go at the same situation and handled it better. No dog contact and no pulling over.

We used his mat (really an old cheap micro beach towel from Decathlon) for the first time in town as well, sitting in four different locations so that he could remain calm as dogs walk by. This is part of his SD training. The last 'on your mat' place we sat people came and went with their own dogs and I got to chat to some interesting locals. Carbon got so many compliments (and sausages). So proud of my boy.

The only 'bummer' part of the day was when I took him to the local beach afterwards to let him have a free run after being so good on lead all afternoon. There were quite a few people there still at 6pm and he resisted all the balls with superdog strength until he caved and ran towards a man with a Chuck It thrower and his spaniel. My fault, it had been a long day, it was past his dinner time and I was asking WAY too much of him.

Carbon got the dog's ball and brought it right back to the man and dropped it at his feet. The man lifted up the Chuck It and whacked Carbon on the back with it! Although I know I was in the wrong (Carbon running to the man out of control) but no excuse for that reaction. Luckily Carbon wasn't fazed at all so I thought my best reaction was to remain calm and positive for Carbon's sake. I just walked up to Carbon, clipped on his lead and gave him treats for coming along nicely with me. All the while thinking "A**wipe!" with a smile plastered on my face.

Anyhoo, I've decided that I've once again put kindergartener Carbon in a university setting. He simply isn't ready for a beach with many other dogs with balls on it yet, at least not without a good doggie buddy like Reuben, Benson or Cassie to keep him occupied. No matter as our favourite walks are on the cliffs anyway, plenty of beautiful views of the turquoise Cornish sea there without putting Carbon in a difficult situation on the beach.

Mainly I'm just so proud of him for doing such a great job. Love my Besito Boy!

Finished work, picked the kid up and came home to the girl. OH had gone out about two hours earlier so miss Ella was left in the house with peanut butter toast on the coffee table! (Don't even get me started on the fact that Nath was allowed to eat at the coffee table AND leave his mess behind ). To her credit - she didn't touch it!

Of course I rewarded her by giving her the toast

This is a lovely read Emily. I know just what a big achievement it is for Carbon to spend three hours in Padstow without reacting to other dogs. Well done!.

I totally get this too, it's the "bottle of pop" situation again, that gets held in until it just has to explode. That was happening with Cassie and the hunting. Me trying to stop her made the whole situation worse. Since I've developed the confidence to use it as a reward we've made great progress. But that's so much harder with the ball thing because obviously you've got idiotic other people involved.
