I know this is wildly of topic on a Labrador forum but what do you guys think about Springers?

SBD Strikes from beyond the Grave!

Just putting up a couple of nice framed photos of the Small Black Dog and of course these required picture pins hammering into the wall. You know what's coming next, don't you? Poof! No power. I'd only gone and driven the pin through a cable. Fortunately careful reversal of the...

    Possible Rescue Dog

I know it's very soon after the SBD, but I feel I'm going nuts with the loss at the moment. I'm not going to make any major decisions until a suitable amount of time has passed (this is code for not breaking up every time I think of the SBD) but as a means of keeping my sanity I'm looking at...

    Small Black Dog

Today and quite suddenly. It was the right thing to do. A lovely dog and companion and very stoical right up the the end. The vet was lovely with her and we did it in the back of the car on her bed with us both by her side. Lady - 3rd September 2009 - 8th October 2020.

Small Black Dog Strikes (unexpectedly) Again - and guess who's in the doghouse!

Rosemary back from the supermarket. Me unloaded the car and left all the shopping in the back room. Rosemary out delivering shopping to a friend who is isolating. Me down the garden clearing out a garden shed. Lady last seen asleep on the sofa. You know what is coming next, don't you...

    Clawing the ground

At the risk of becoming paranoid about her, Lady is starting to claw the patio or dig holes in corners against the house walls. I've a feeling this may be a bad sign related to stress. Any other wisdom?

    Lady getting worse

We're going through a bad patch and Lady now won't do the 200yds walk to the field for a wee in the morning. I've taken to popping her into the car and going to a local wood that she likes. This morning she just did what she had to do then asked to go back to the car after only walking about...

    Lady

What to report really? This is all new for me as it's a first for a dog reaching old age and declining. I took the SBD to the vet again today. He wanted to review things before repeating tablets. She's up and down these days and this morning coaxing her the 100 yds or so to the field was...

    Small Black Dog fully retired

It was a half day shoot yesterday and not requiring much walking so I took the SBD as a treat - she still sits on the doormat when I get everything ready and wants to come even though I know she's really not fit enough anymore. She has arthritis in her elbows and a touch of sciatica in her...

Small Black Dog has Surprise Sneeze!

In the kibble area …. Lady had her head in the food bowl when she did one of those dog resounding sneezes. A fountain of kibble arose from the bowl and scattered all over the kitchen floor. :cwl: We were both in stitches (not the SBD). Dinner was rather longer than usual as she went "hunt...

BREAKING NEWS! - Flooded Fields Rejuvenate Arthritic Dog!

The nearby stream came over it's banks this morning (we had a flood alert last night) and it quickly started to fill the field that Lady and I have to cross for our morning walk. It's not deep - just extensive. I waded through with the water about 2/3 of the way up my wellington boots...

    Lady - Retired

It was my first shoot in 7 years yesterday without my good companion, Lady by my side. Poor lamb is now pretty much crippled with arthritis. The heart wrenching thing is she still wants to come and gets herself in position at the door just before I start to put my gear in the car. I'd planned...

Lady - Starting to Feel Her Age

Poor girl - she's going through the wars at the moment. She was 10 in September and now has significant arthritis in both elbows, a touch of sciatica, and more fatty lumps than you can throw a stick at. Her history is she has elbow dysplasia diagnosed and operated on when she was two and a bit...

    And the years rolled off!

We're in Cornwall for a week. We come every year and we all love it including Lady. Lately, however, the SBD has been having trouble with her elbows and on top of it all has taken on all the characteristics of an old dog. Maybe she is, but I would have thought 9 years and 8 months was a...

I am not going to crack!

The SBD has been lying at my feet for over 20 minutes now staring at me but I'm not going to crack! %)

    Dew Claws!!!!!!

The SBD has dew claws like little sickles and they need regular trimming otherwise they are potentially lethal. They need doing now. Last night one claw got caught in my hand and ripped my index finger from the palm to the second knuckle! What joy and blood everywhere! Probably needed a...

    Dog Hair!

The SBD has a continuous moult, but we had a first today. Dyson super suck clogged with dog hairs! I've never seen anything like it. Had to take it all apart to de-fur it creating a large pile on the floor.

    Small Black Dog Down

At lunchtime Lady lay down under the kitchen table and then refused some offcuts of ham. By teatime she had gone right off. Her tummy felt really tight so rushed her off for a 18:15 vet appointment. Antibiotic jab, antiemetic, morphine plus antibiotic pills. Blood test. Emergency number...
