    A week at the coast

Lovely photos! I live in Norfolk and love the variety of beaches along the coast. (I almost went to Holkham beach this morning, hoping to tire Jess out before another long night of fireworks). Did Red react to the seals at all? I always avoid Blakeney & Horsey Gap as worry that mine might...

    Treat and train

Oh, interesting - very noisy would definitely be a problem for Jess. And I did wonder whether they could be used with anything other than kibble (which is of no interest at all to Jess and only marginal interest to Brodie). Can it be filled with any other treats (chopped up sausage? home made...

    Treat and train

I was looking at the Petsafe one, I agree they are expensive so need to be sure that it is more than a passing whim. I was discussing this with a trainer who said I would need to get one for each dog! (not going to happen) I did lots and lots of reinforcing my two on settle mats when...

    Bear's tummy troubles

I've never tried the Fish4Dogs kibble or wet food though have considered it. Moving to a fish-based kibble helped Jess when she was a puppy, after a similar run of tummy issues. Brodie also smells very different to Jess, much doggier and musky as you say with Bear. Even when they are on the...

    Treat and train

I think if I took him out on lead it would delay but increase his intensity once he was let off. The garden circuit is definitely a rehearsed behaviour and he actually only does it for a couple of zooms, so I am sure if I can find the right 'key' it can be stopped & changed. I just can't find...

    Treat and train

hmm, reinforcing being inside as an alternative to running outside is an interesting thought. I know the key will be to break the pattern of running outside & zooming but everything I try seems to at best delay that rather than replace it with a different behaviour. (i.e. if my husband opens...

    Treat and train

Thank you! The care suggestion is a good one, Brodie is a bit inconsistent about when/who he will allow to touch him. Come to think of it, mine are good at waiting their turn, they just have very different levels of interest & enjoyment from training. Brodie loves tennis balls to the point...

    Treat and train

Can those of you who have a treat and train tell me a bit more about how you use them? I have coveted one for a while but without a very clear plan of how I would use it. I'd like to have several games/ideas clearly in mind before buying one. I saw @snowbunny recent thread with weave poles...

    Bear's Puppy Log

He is lovely! I can relate to lots of the dynamics that you are describing with Bear - Brodie was/is also a very powerful, strong and strong-willed dog and it came as such a shock after Jess (who had her own challenges but was much 'softer' in every way). A few months down the road I can say...

Mr Bear still in one piece

Jess was so gentle with her toys, we still have all of her toys, even her very first bear (like Red's Mr Bear above). Sadly Brodie has killed - and usually eaten- every furry toy that he has ever met so we had to pack them all away! Poor Jess :(

    Small Black Dog

I'm so sorry. I didn't read the other threads before posting my own. I'm sorry if mine was insensitive. I know SBD was deeply loved and I am very sorry for your loss.

    Hello from Jess and Brodie

Thanks everyone! It's nice to be here, surrounded by lovely dogs and the humans that serve them 😁 Yes, that sums it up. My training mojo is very flat right now. I will have to take myself off to the whine bar and add my grumbles. I have lots to be grateful for but there's a bit of...

    Hello from Jess and Brodie

Hello, Thanks to @Selina27 for letting me know about this forum. I used to post occasionally on TLF as 'blackandwhitedog' and it's nice to see so many familiar names here. At that time I had one working cocker, Jess. Now I have two! Jess is 4 and Brodie is one this month. They are great...
