    Hunter

This morning I think we hit a mile stone. For the first time Hunter barked when he heard someone knock and open the porch door.

    Hunter

Hunter was 6 months old yesterday. Time flies. He got big and I got lucky. He’s a big softy and super friendly. In the last month Hunter has worked out he can jump up at the kitchen worktop, luckily I’ve never got out of the habit of keeping everything at the back, and can also jump up and just...

    Homer being sick

@JES72 I’ve just caught up again and was very glad when I got to the bit were Homer’s legs had improved. Laryngeal paralysis which Scout had is neurological and can affect the legs. Scout’s legs did get weaker and he had problems vomiting so I have a good idea what you and poor Homer are going...

    Grain Free food and DCM

Just thought I’d post this incase anyone who uses Skinners dog food is interested. Skinners is the other food I’m considering changing Hunter on to as Scott and Scout did well on their field and trial adult. They use pea protein and peas in their diets so I emailed their nutritionist to ask...

    Grain Free food and DCM

@Selina The OH gets what he’s given  but I’d have to learn how to cook a lot better if I was going to feed left overs to my dog.

    Grain Free food and DCM

@SwampDonkey @Cath same here. I live on what was originally my grandparents farm. Back in their day the dog lived outside, got fed mainly scraps and bones and never needed the vets. Now is it dogs that have gone softer or owners ?

    Grain Free food and DCM

@SwampDonkey I think that’s the most sensible approach. When you think about the number of dogs that have been eating a diet containing pea protein for years you’d think they’d have a definite link by now if it was a major problem.

    Grain Free food and DCM

I was looking for research done in the Uk. I found a few articles including the one below that state there is no information to suggest the same issue in the Uk and Europe. Also an article states research done in Canada shows legumes are safe for healthy dogs although it does admit it was a...

    Grain Free food and DCM

Thanks for posting this link @Kelsey&Axel. I’m sorry I missed it on your thread. I suppose like you say it’s a question of putting things in perspective the number of dogs against the number of cases. I haven’t seen any research done here in the UK

    Grain Free food and DCM

@Jacqui-S Thank you for the link Jacqui. I hadn’t come across such an up to date article. It’s interesting they are finding possibly more specific causes than a blanket grain free diet. @Selina27 sorry I should’ve explained DCM in the first place. Thank you for the link about veg and carbs it...

    Grain Free food and DCM

I was wondering if any of you thought there was a need for concern regarding the suggested link between grain free food and DCM? I’ve been looking for an alternative food to Royal Canin for Hunter. My local family pet shop has started to sell their own premium, grain free dog food which rates...

Is it the food or exercise?

It looks like it might have been a dodgy bag of food affecting Hunter’s bowels🤞 !!! I did all the things we’d discussed earlier in the thread but nothing helped so I rang Royal Canin nutrition helpline to ask about the feeding guide and to see if they had any suggestions. I spoke to a very nice...

Is it the food or exercise?

@Kelsey&Axel I’m wondering about changing because of the poultry in Royal Canin too Kelsey. Murphy couldn’t eat chicken or beef once he’d developed colitis so with Scott and Scout I steered clear of both from the start. Their puppy food was lamb adult food salmon. I’m glad Hugo is improving on...

Is it the food or exercise?

@Selina27 sorry Selina I didn’t actually think you were it was a joke it’s just I roll my eyes at myself it sounds so ridiculous when I write it down. I mean even if he does have diarrhoea so what it really doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things so I don’t now why I got so anxious about...

Is it the food or exercise?

@Selina27 I’m worried every time it happens incase it the start of him having diarrhoea. It’s neurotic I know and I know not even usually anything major I just really can’t help worrying about it. I think it’s ever since Murphy and his colitis. This is how neurotic I am and I don’t mind if you...
