The right trainer for you but the wrong trainer for your dog?

@UncleBob, I think Mrs UB makes a good point. If the general attitude is 'can-do' I'm sure that instils confidence in owners and hence transfers to the dogs. It brings to mind a singing workshop I used to go to where the 'boss' (for want of a better word) just expected we could all (30 +...

Still trouble with jumping...and question about crating

Plum rarely jumps up now but one of my neighbours adores her and has always encouraged her to jump up at her for kisses and cuddles. Plum is always so happy to see her and does a little jump. I've never tried to stop it because my neighbour doesn't mind and it hasn't encouraged Plum to do it...

    Bit worried about Poppy

Poor Poppy, hope she's better soon. (In the days before we filmed stuff on our phones I recorded my then baby son barking like a seal. When we got to GP he wasn't "barking" so GP dismissed me but when I played the recording he diagnosed croup. Never heard anything like it before.)

The right trainer for you but the wrong trainer for your dog?

I did a whole day gundog workshop (10-4) when Plum was 6 months old and there were about 10 of us in a large field and then we did 8 consecutive weeks of gundog training when she was 11 months old and there were 6 of us. I thought both were equally good, Plum learned a lot (as did I) from both...

    Exercise!

Plum (nearly 2 years) gets 1.5 - 2 hours (almost entirely off lead) a day during the week (divided by two) and more at weekends. But she's pretty good at chilling too. She also has a time in the evening when she likes to play tug or catch or just chew her toys. We're on hols at the moment so...

Can they really recognise other breeds ?

Plum seems to love doodle type dogs and Weimaraners. These are the two breeds she'll go to play with, and she tends to approach by slinking up and rolling on her back, then try to initiate chase. Most other breeds she ignores but will sometimes play if approached and they seem up for a bit of...

    What is 'Under control'?

Recently my hip was so bad I struggled to walk and getting Plum out was quite an effort. I thought about walking to the park then cycling around the perimeter with her to give myself a bit of respite. But how would I have got my bike, Plum on lead, and myself to the park?! There's no way I'd...
