    Travelling with Poppy Dog

We're all off for a few days. We're running a track day at Castle Combe on Monday then off to Cornwall direct from the hotel the next day for a week off. We've booked Poppy into a "luxury" dog hotel near Devizes from Saturday afternoon to Tuesday morning. I think she'll be fine because she's...

    Poppy - Spaying Tomorrow

I'm hoping she gradually forgets all that. I think her puppyhood has been rather dominated by training and working and I'd like her to just be a family pet, although we have been doing a bit of gundog training with her - more to keep her occupied than anything else.

    Lump - Histiocytoma

Never heard of that but that's not significant. Wow that must have been very worrying but good news it will be ok. Just shows, though, that it's important to act quickly with this sort of thing - just as in humans.

    Poppy - Spaying Tomorrow

Poppy seems to be back to pretty much full fitness already 8 days into recovery. To mark this she reverted to her training as a sniffer dog this morning. My daughter, SiL and their family are moving house today and SiL, Nick, brought some essentials round to keep in our house until...

    Lead Aggression

That may be true. She's supposed to have been thoroughly socialised with both people, children and dogs but I think the reality is she's only met Labs, springers and GSDs. She has real issues with the latter and having seen quite a few of Surrey Police's GSDs I'm not surprised by that. :rofl...

    Lead Aggression

I meet a guy with two collie type dogs most mornings and they are horrible. They both lunge on the lead and attack with lips raised and teeth bared. So the treating and walking has been working fine but I think his dogs are the exception to the rule. Even moving my hand down the lead couldn't...

    Lead Aggression

Well that went much better than expected. Slack lead, pocket full of kibble (her evening meal is going to be a bit lighter than usual) and much vigorous "Poppy sit" and "Poppy close" (close by tradition because I poisoned heel with Lady and changed the word to close) and "Poppy good girl!" and...

    Lead Aggression

Thanks everyone - some good stuff and I've read the Snowbunny thread. I'll start application on this morning's walk and see how we get on. (The Poppy Dog is currently hurling a tennis ball across the room and then chasing after it!)

    Lead Aggression

Poppy has always, since she came to us, had a tendency to lunge at and growl at other dogs if she and they are on lead and pass each other even on opposite sides of the street. Since I've been limiting her to lead walks after her spay last Wednesday it's come really to the fore and needs...

    Poppy - Spaying Tomorrow

:hungover: <------- Does this give you a clue about the keeping her calm bit? She's doing fine thanks. Both wounds are healing nicely and all inflammation has gone down. She is impossible to keep calm so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't strain anything important but...

Poor Red. Here's wishing for a speedy recovery.

    Poppy - Spaying Tomorrow

My experience with my previous dog, Lady, was exactly that. No running or jumping for 48 hours but then nothing much after that. Perhaps it comes down to how risk adverse the particular vet is. Poppy had really perked up this afternoon so I took her for a slowish 20 minute walk and she was...

    Poppy - Spaying Tomorrow

I think on balance I'll just take a chance leaving the cone off. She has actually so far shown little interest in the wound today. Our last girl, the SBD, never had a cone and the vet then just said no running or jumping for the first 48 hours. In hindsight I think that was maybe a bit too...

    Poppy - Spaying Tomorrow

Well the girl is back! The problem now is keeping her calm. She slept solidly from when we brought her home at 4 o'clock to around 9 o'clock when she perked up a bit so I took her out to see if she needed a wee but she didn't. I gave her a very small meal of some bland tinned food the vet...

    Poppy - Spaying Tomorrow

Just home. Poor lamb is completely zonked. Everything went well, thanks everyone. I'll report tomorrow. Vet thought she was in super condition /weight - about as good as she has seen in a long while in a Labrador and she thought she is a super looking dog.

    Just dropped her off.

    Poppy - Spaying Tomorrow

Just waiting for the call - any time from 10:30 to 14:30. Amazingly Poppy has settled even with no breakfast although she did insist on climbing on my knee while I was having my breakfast tea. Not easy to balance a lab on a knee and drink tea at the same time.

    Poppy - Spaying Tomorrow

The evening after the SBD had her op we ended up with a £113 extra for an out of hours x-ray because she ate a tennis ball! Just saying. 😂

    Poppy - Spaying Tomorrow

As part of the contract when we took Poppy on, we have to have her spayed. The op is tomorrow and no food after 9pm tonight and no water after 09:00 tomorrow. Poor lamb and we can't explain or ask for her opinion but I know what that would be.

    Poor Prim

Oh dear! Poor lamb. Hopefully she won't try that again.
