    Just when you think ..........

Your dog is being everso good  Reuben has been soooo good recently , no legging it until this morning when Squirrel Highway got the better of him at Golitha , they were everywhere , pesky little things , collecting nuts and teasing with blatant abandon  Off he set at top speed ...

Reuben has been going to Anna now for almost a year , he adores her and she him . On Sunday we had a bang in our car , the wall won . Our village garage are having the car in today at 8 , could be for the day so I rang Anna to see if she could have Reubs for an extra day , Nelly will be fine...

    Not taking it any further

I love to see a Labrador working in the field , loving the job and happy owners . I had harboured thoughts of trying to achieve a reasonable standard with Reuben , nothing spectacular but maybe being able to take him picking up . I have now altered my train of thought completely , I still enjoy...

    Reverse sneezing

Reuben has just had an episode of this , something I have never witnessed before in any of my many dogs , its horrible to watch , went on for several moments . I stroked his head and chin , it began to subside and he is fine now , poor lamb x

    The woman I met yesterday

I really didnt know if I should post this because it sounds so unbelievable but here goes . I had taken the dogs to Golitha Falls really early , it being bank holiday and a lovely sunny morning to boot . There were one or two familiar dog walkers doing the same as me , avoiding the hoards and...

    On Wednesday ..

Chris drove down , arrived at a nearby cottage last Saturday , just her and the girls ( aged 9 and 13 ) for a week , then her son will arrive this weekend to take the girls...

    Elementary scent work

It had been suggested that I start scent work with Reuben, his nose is phenomenal , like most Labs . So , I set up the plant pots , one tiny little piece if kibble under one them, he was indoors . I then brought him and out and said Find it , pointing at the row , two flippin seconds ! Repeated...

    Dogs and storms

Like most other areas , it was a very hot day here yesterday , then mid evening the sky went dark , big spots of rain and rumbles of thunder could be heard . Reuben usually settles well from around 7.p.m. but he was pacing and clearly not a happy lad . We didnt have a massive storm, just a few...

    E collars , again x

After months of work , I have almost managed to stop Reuben from charging off after deer , using tennis balls when he shows an inclination , plus loads of praise and look at me , fishy treats too . He ignores the cattle which are sometimes in the river at Golitha , so I`m pretty pleased ...

What a difference a day makes

Yesterday , when Steve came to pick up my old laptop , Reuben barked , growled, hackles up , not like him at all . Thankfully Steve has dogs and ignored him but it quite upset me until I realised that he has not been used to anyone coming into the home for months , meeting them outside is fine...

    Sitting up with Reuben

Its 1.a.m. My boy needed the garden in a rush , I dont know what for as its very dark here, no street lights but he didnt want to come in for ages . He seems subdued so I`m on the sofa with him , as you do , not much point going back to bed any time soon, poor love x

    Broken nail

Last night , Reuben was limping very slightly on his front right leg , so slightly that only I noticed it . This morning I only took him for ten minutes but again the very slight sporadic limp . Have just found the culprit , a nail on the paw of that leg is split right at the tip, he has been...

    The hole

Some time ago , Reuben dug a hole in the lawn , so I filled it back in and within no time, he had dug it out again . Next time I filled it in with soil , put a grass sod on top and covered it with a large plant pot , he knocked the plant pot off and dug it out again  I filled it back...

Wishing I could fatten him up

Reuben is a skinny minnie , he is a big ( tall ) dog with very good muscles but I think he could do with bulking out a little . Half the problem is that he seems incapable of walking , this dog loves to run like the wind . He is good at checking in with me , I rarely have to call him but oh how...

Remembering Sam today as every day

Today, he would have been 9 years old , our darling lad . I still feel so sad that he left us too soon , tears never far away . It will be three years in three months time since we said goodbye to Sam but a little bit of him lives on his great nephew , I am so pleased we had him x

    Thoughts of Tess today

Nine years ago since Tess left us . She was a French dog, no papers, no health checks but the healthiest Labrador until cancer of the liver took her aged 10 . A lovely happy girl who , like Sam after her, welcomed little rescues into our home and cared for them , she was a darling x Here she is...

    Lazy days

Reuben is always up for a walk, or should I say a run :giggl: Yesterday, the weather was foul , this doesnt usually stop his desire to get out there but once more, Nelly wasnt too good so our walks were short , very short by his standard . Usually if for some reason his walk is not up to...

    Rest in peace Dexter

Some of you may remember Donna , she used to be an active member of the other forum as Newlabmum , she did join here but I cannot find her, I think her member name was Shortie ? I had a sad phone call last night to say that Dexter had died of cancer, he was four years old . This was thankfully...
