How did you choose your dog’s name?

Like many, we made a list of possible names but none of them resonated. When we picked Holly up, just before Christmas, her little puppy teeth were prickly like holly leaves. The name stuck.

    Adopting a Labrador

Thank you. We really miss the walks, playtimes and fun of having a dog.

    Adopting a Labrador

We’ve discussed other dogs a lot over the last couple of months. As things stand a large, strong, energetic dog would be too much. We looked at breeds and are homing in on Cavapoo or similar for adoption or as a puppy. We‘re also watching the local rehoming centres to see if anything...

    Adopting a Labrador

GP has been fairly thorough. He’s done full bloods which showed up normal on all indicators including B12. He’s even rung me at home (without an appointment) just to check how I am.

    Adopting a Labrador

Thanks Naya. I intend to discuss going private at my next appointment with the GP. I’ll have a look at the Spire and see whether our GP deals with them.

    Adopting a Labrador

Sometimes life bowls a googly. A few days after starting this thread I had a numb feeling in my toes. It didn't go away but developed into a numbness in both legs and overwhelming tiredness. GP thinks its a problem with the nerves in my leg. I can't get an NHS specialist appoitment for 46 weeks...

    Ted

I'm sad to say that Ted died at the weekend. He was 12 years old and spent a happy life with a loving family.

    Ted

Some of the SW pack members will remember Ted, our next-door neighbours black Lab. Ted and Holly were great pals and created their share of mayhem together, often visiting in each others houses and gardens (whether invited or not!) Yesterday we learned that Ted has cancer. It's not clear how...

    Adopting a Labrador

Has anyone come across this organisation before? We’re looking around at possible adoption agencies who cover our area. They seem to cover England but, as we’re only two miles inside Wales, they could be interested. https://www.labradorsinneed.co.uk/ When I first saw them on google I thought...

I found them online, thanks. Have you any experience of them?

    Adopting a Labrador

Thanks Kate. I had a look at the Team Edwards site and it looks promising. I guess I'll have to contact them to see what the process is - I expect they'll want to check us out be establish our bona fides. I'd not really thought about rehoming guide dogs. There's a lady we occasionally meet...

    Adopting a Labrador

It's 8 months since we lost Holly and the house is awfully quiet. We're missing our daily walks, plays, snuggles and the general silliness that goes with sharing a house with a Lab. Over the last few weeks we've been talking about getting another Lab but are unsure about whether to get a puppy...

Wishing the ground would swallow you up…

As a teenager I used to walk my first Lab, Tammy, through the local sand dunes. It was a favourite spot for courting couples and Tammy had an unerring ability to find them. I could usually tell when she'd been successful by the squeals and swearing.

Wishing the ground would swallow you up…

While walking in the Forest Holly and I came across a bird-watching hide. I decided to give it a wide berth but Holly had other ideas. She shot off into the hide and came out with an apple in her mouth, hotly persued by the guy. It was his lunch and, unlike Holly, he really wasn't very happy.

    Preparing to say Goodbye..

We understand. Letting them go is never an easy decision but its one that can’t be avoided. Ruth and I send both of you our best wishes at this difficult time.

    Holly

More milestones were reached this week. The last of Holly's tennis balls were scattered and they were all picked up within 24 hours. We hope they've gone to good homes. I also got some new slippers. My old ones were falling to pieces after being fetched by Holly for six months. Fetching usually...
